1998
   Although it started off slow, 1998 ended off with the grandaddy of bangs: Sonic the Hedgehog's triumphant return. The original Sonic Team has stepped back in to cleanse the Sonic name, and restore the almighty Hedgehog to his former glory. After two years in development, Sonic Adventure takes the Japanese gaming public by storm, and is met with rave reviews of the highest degree.

   Although much of Sonic's general popularity has been lost, this is a good thing for the hardcore fans (that's us). Sonic is back, in a big way. Speaking of "big", Big the Cat and E-102 "g" enter the Sonicverse via Sonic Adventure. You might also wanna count Frog, Tikal, and Perfect Chaos...

January 21 · Sonic R, the original soundtrack of Sonic R, is released in Japan.
August 22
 The grand day of the Sonic Adventure press conference. Yuji Naka and the Sonic Team unveil Sonic Adventure on the Sega Dreamcast. The blue blur's true 3D debut, as well as his first leap in generation since his inception.
November 6 · Sonic Team PowerPlay, a collection of music from various Sonic Team games, is released in Japan.
November 11

December 2
 · Songs With Attitude, a mini-album of the character themes in Sonic Adventure, is released in Japan.
December 16 · Sonic Adventure Remix, a collection featuring remixed versions of the "Songs With Attitude" tracks, is released in Japan.

 -- Sonic Adventure on the Sega Dreamcast is released in Japan.
