1992
The year 1992 saw the beginning of hedgehog mania, in the United States particularly. So great was Sonic's US popularity, Yuji Naka flew over to this side of the Pacific to develop Sonic the Hedgehog 2 with Sega Technical Institute, an in-house developer for Sega of America. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 went on to become the best-selling 16-bit game of all time.

1992 also saw the debut of two new additions to the Sonicverse. Dr. Robotnik's first attempt at creating a mecha Sonic, the Silver Sonic; and the massively popular Miles "Tails" Prower, a sidekick and best friend for our favorite hedgehog.
