Archie
Comics begins publishing the official "Sonic the
Hedgehog" comic book in the US. The comic started as a
four-issue mini series and flowed straight into ongoing
status. It is still published monthly, and has spawned
many specials and spin-off series. Sonic the Hedgehog,
Miles "Tails" Prower, Princess Sally Acorn, Boomer
(later changed to Rotor), Bunnie Rabbot, Antoine
D'Coolette, and the other Freedom Fighters stand against
Dr. Robotnik's tyrannical rule. For more info, check out

Fleetway
Comics begins publishing the official "Sonic the Comic"
comic book in the UK. Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails"
Prower, Amy Rose, Porker Lewis, and Johnny Lightfoot
specialize in giving Dr. Ivo Robotnik a hard time, and
keeping Mobius a free planet. This series is also
published in Italy as "Sonic Videogame & Fumetti,"
Germany as "Sonic der Comic" (discontinued in 1995),
France as "Sonic Mag," and Holland as "Sonic Magazine."

"The
Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" animated cartoon
series from DiC begins its syndicated run. Sonic the
Hedgehog and Miles "Tails" Prower keep Dr. Robotnik and
his bumbling Badnik cronies Scratch, Grounder, and
Coconuts on their toes in wacky animated hijinks, making
sure Mobius remains a happy place to live. Jaleel White
(Family Matters) provides Sonic's voice.

"Sonic the
Hedgehog" animated cartoon series from DiC begins its
network run on ABC Saturday mornings. It sported a
higher budget-per-episode and slighty more mature tone
than the syndicated "The Adventures of Sonic the
Hedgehog." Based on the comic book from Archie, but with
a much darker tone and several variations in character
design. Jaleel White (Family Matters) provides
Sonic's voice. It got a first season of thirteen
episodes and was renewed in 1994 for another fourteen
episodes, making a total of twenty-seven episodes. For
