??? The only official Sonic manga so far, this started as a serial in Shogaku-Yonensei ("Elementary School") magazine. Apparently, the serial ended six or seven years ago, and outside of some doujin (fan manga), there has been nothing further on the Japanese front. Here is an image from one of the pages in a story titled: "Save Little John." The image was scanned from a French gaming mag. Thanks to Mary "Solly" Yamasaki and Alessandro Sanasi.

Penguin Books Ltd. publishes Stay Sonic, which explains Sonic's "origins" and provides hints & tips for both the 8 and 16-bit versions of Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
1993 Penguin Books Ltd. publishes a series of Sonic the Hedgehog "Adventure Gamebooks" written by James Wallis, Nigel Gross, Jon Suitherland, Marc Gascoigne, and Jonathan Green. The series includes Metal City Mayhem, Zone Rangers, Sonic vs. Zonik (1994), The Zone Zapper (1994), Theme Park Panic (1995), and Stormin' Sonic (1996).

Troll Associates publishes a series of Sonic the Hedgehog junior novels, written by Michael Teitelbaum and based on the ABC Saturday morning cartoon. The first is Sonic the Hedgehog, followed a year later by Robotnik's Revenge. In 1995 came Fortress of Fear, Friend or Foe, and Sonic & Knuckles. An activity book (featuring puzzles, mazes, secret codes, hidden pictures, etc.) wrapped things up. This series is only available in the US.
1993 Virgin Books publishes a series of Sonic the Hedgehog junior novels, written by Martin Adams. The series includes Sonic the Hedgehog in Robotnik's Laboratory, Sonic the Hedgehog in the Fourth Dimension, Sonic the Hedgehog and the Silicon Warriors, and the final book in the series (released in 1994): Sonic the Hedgehog in Castle Robotnik. This series is only available in the UK.

A European research center is studying hedgehog genes, when a brand new one is discovered. The team responsible for the find decided to name the gene "Sonic," after you-know-who. The name was decided on when one of the researchers came across an ad for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in a magazine, and thought the name perfectly described the general attitude of the research team behind the discovery.
1994 -- Amazing Sonic by Tiger is released in the USA.

· Virtual Sonic, an original music CD inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog, is released in the US.
1996 Sonic the Hedgehog becomes the first videogame ever to be included in the National Film and Television Archive by the British Film Institute.
