How Many Licks Does it Take...
...to reach the chewy center of a Puyo Pop? The world may never know. But
THQ might. Those lazy bastards at Sega of America have farmed out all the Game Boy Advance work
to those licensing pimps at THQ. The only immediately noticable effect of the transition is
the changing of Minna de Puyo Puyo's title to Puyo Pop in the US. (That, incidentally, was the
title of the spiffy NeoGeo Pocket iteration of the series and until now the only one to make it
across the Pacific bearing the original Puyo name.) Yeah, it's kinda lame, but maybe if SoA
were doing the dirty work themselves we'd have ended up with Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine 2.
(Then again, that might not be so bad...) Either way, both Puyo Pop and Sonic Advance are
supposed to be released next month. Sonic Spinball is also being lifted from the ashes to be
included in the GBA version of Sega Smash Pack courtesy of the same fine folks. THQ has
previously been behind such GBA classics as Monsters Inc, WWF Road to Wrestlemania, The Wild
Thornberrys Chimp Chase, Power Rangers Time Force, Britney's Dance Beat..... oh God, save us all
or smite us now.
I haven't even touched Sonic Advance since my first sitting (when I cleared
the game as all four characters and earned 5 Chaos Emeralds). Now that classes have resumed I'll
be taking my GBA to school with me (which I've discovered is the only time I'm ever willing to
sit down and play the darn thing), and finishing up Sonic Advance will be top priority. There
isn't a muscle in my gaming parts that's looking forward to fishing the sixth Emerald out of that
last Special Stage, though. I was getting tired of the old half-pipe, but if this is evolution,
take me back to the primordial ooze. Hm... maybe I'll also finally remove Golden Sun and Mega
Man Battle Network from the factory packaging...
Well, while the rest of the industry is busy turning Sonic back into its
collective marketing slut (home again, home again, jiggety-jig) Sonic Team is doing the same with
all this cell phone nonsense. Tennis not your fancy? Fret not, you now have the option of a
relaxing day on the green with Sonic Golf. This information has been added to the
miscellaneous page. Please remember to replace your
divots.
