Random Posts of Sonic the Hedgehog

People love to talk about Sonic the Hedgehog. While plenty of people love to talk about how terrible they think it is, there are even more who talk about the franchise with a certain fondness, and ocassional trending on obsession. Beginning with the announcement of the original game in 1990, topics covering the series have appeared on Usenet, mailing lists, and numerous message boards and chatrooms. I have not attempted to save every message ever about the franchise because that would be silly. To talk about every webpage and fan group that have ever existed about Sonic the Hedgehog would be an undertaking that would prove to be uninteresting for many who weren't involved, and those who were. Instead, here is a slice of selected ones with very little commentary.

The AOL Message board

One of the earlier hubs of Sonic the Hedgehog communication was housed on the America Online service, back when their AOL-only content was a thriving enterprise. While thousands of posts were made, only a handful are known to survive.

The Sonic the Comic Mailing List

Because of the fragmented nature of the Sonic fandom, it would only make sense that certain places would focus on one interpretation of Sonic over another. The contents of this list, while sometimes touching on the games or the Archie comic, focused on the British "Sonic the Comic" published by Fleetway. Notable for having Nigel Kitching - the main writing force behind the run of the series - as a subscriber, the list still technically exists today, albeit on a different service. At nearly 1200 messages, this is the beginning of the list during the twilight of the series.
