Sonic in Your Pocket

Apparently, a new Sonic game has just been confirmed. Don't burst your hedgehog-blue buttons just yet, it isn't Sonic Adventure 2. It's for SNK's 16-bit handheld, Neo Geo Pocket (released only in Japan). SNK announced in a recent closed-doors show that they've got the rights to release Neo Geo Pocket Color (the NG Pocket equivalent of the Game Boy Color) versions of Sakura Taisen, Sakura Taisen Columns, SNK vs. Capcom, and a Sonic action game. That's right, a Sonic action game.

I will most certainly investigate further into this allegation. If it's true, it's possible that it may just be a hand-held version of an existing Sonic game (most likely a Sonic Jam type collection). But then again, it may indeed be a completely new 2D Sonic game. If the latter is the case, I will go so far as to import a NG Pocket along with a copy of said Sonic game, and share my findings with all who care to listen. Stick with NEO GHZ to keep updated. Either way, I think I've got another item to add down the Sonic Museum timeline...

Now here's something else interesting to chew on: as dirty rumor would have it, there may be some sort of link-up feature between the Neo Geo Pocket Color and PlayStation 2 in the future. Smell something funny? Of course, that's just rumor, but there's just something seriously wrong with the industry when I play Sonic the Hedgehog on a PlayStation...
