When I was eleven years old, my aunt gave me a computer. It wasn’t a new computer. In fact, it wasn’t very modern at all. It was a Compaq II Portable, which could run the original Sim City on DOS if I tried hard enough. But it was technically my first computer, and so, using an old copy of Wordperfect, I figured “hey, why not write a story on here?” I mean, that’s what I assume my thought process was. These certainly weren’t school assignments.
Because they were written in 1996, I’ve left them alone. Every weird plot choice, every spelling and grammar mistake, even the formatting itself has been preserved in amber. Because it would be silly if I tried to edit them as someone in my 30’s.
I was a child! Cut me some slack.
Anyway, here they are. Two stories that were in the same file. The first one is an attempt at a horror story, the second is an...adventure story? It features the real name of my 6th Grade teacher, but for some reason I don’t think he’d get mad that he’s mentioned in this. Right, the second one is a self-insert story. Sorry.
It was October 29 and all the children were geting ready for
Halloween.They were getting there costumes and carving jack-
o-laterns.all but one,who was reading about Halloween
superstion.His name is billy.He told frank,his friend,"It says
here that some people belived that when it would be October 32
that it would be the end of the world.""Yeah,right.There is no
October 32,"said Frank.After scholl,some kids dared Bill and
Frank to stay in the haunted house on there street till
12:00am.OF corse,they excepted.Later at10:00pm,they went
inside.At 12:00am though Bill said,"Look,its a pice of paper that
wasen't here before.""Let me see it."When they read it,it said
these words,"On October 31,at 10:00pm,October 32 will
apear.""What does this mean?,"said Bill."Wait,there's more.""Only
two named Bill and Frank can save the world.""They must mean
us,"said Bill.Frank said,"The other kids must have looked at your
book and wrote this note to scare us.""I don't know,said Bill.The
next day Bill and Frank asked about the note to some kids.All of
the kids denied writing it.Bill said,"Tommorow is October 31,we
should watch out.""like I told you,some kids wrote it."That night
the two friends were walking town the street and they looked at
the haunted house the saw a figure."lets go check it out,"said
Bill.When they went inside the house they saw themself's looking
out the window.Bill said,"What are you doing here?"One of them
said,listen to the note........we didn't.We have been sent here
to warn you to listen to the note.it is real.........And then it
was gone.Bill said,"Now do you belive me?""Yes,I do."Wean they
went to school,the younger grades had dressup parties and the
older kids had parties but not dreesup parties.All throghout the
partie they were scared.Then school was out.They did there
homework and then tried to make a plan.Then it was 9:00pm."only
one hour away,"said Frank.Then at 9:30 they went to the haunted
house.When they went in the house started changing and they were
transported."What's happining?,"said Frank."I Don't know!,"said
Bill.When the ride ended they founed them selves in the haunted
house,but they noticed that they were in a diffrent time."We must
have been sent through time,"said Bill.When they went out they
found that there block was destroyed.They picked up a nearby
calender and it said October 32."Oh-no,"they said together.They
walked arouned there town and saw the distruction that
happend."Everyone must have left,"said Frank.They saw a
abbandoned block that was still in tact.When they went near by
it,some of the buildings exploded and the others colasped.When
they relized what was going on,they ran into the haunted house
ant they were sent back to there time.When they looked at the
clock it was9:59.They ran to Bill's house and when they got there
it was 10:00.They went to his calender and saw a the numbers
change and a 32 was added to October.They went to his room and
when they got inside they founed a book on his bed.When they
opened it it showed how to save the world.At 11:59 they went to
the haunted house.They had to go inside the house and push the
destroy button.They would risk there lives.Bill and Frank pushed
the button together.Then they ran out of the hous and just made
it.When the last of the house fell down,it became 12:00am.They
went to Bills house and amediatly looked at the calender.October
32 dissaperd from the calender.Insted it was November 1.They had
saved the world.
THE END
One day at Starr School It was lunch recess.Kids were outside
playing not suspecting what was about to happen.David Frisk and
Brandon Davis were outside running after Brandons hat.Suddenly
the wind started to get faster.The bell rang and they went inside
for lunch.They had to sit at assigned tables with there
classses.When they went back outside everyone saw a forcefild
apper arouned Starr School.Then the winds started to pick up.Kids
started to blow arrouned the playground.A book hit the forcefild
and splated acrocs the forcefild."This thing is dedly."said
Brandon Davis.The princapal,Phil Townson,told everyone to get
inside.Mr. Prentis started to talk when a gust of wind broke the
windows.Evreyone that was in the school got there stuff and put
it in there backpack and went to the gym.When they got to the gym
the top of the school flew off and hit the dome.Then the door of
the gym started to cave in.Then it caved in and flew to the
stage.Then the school flew out of the remains of the gym.Just
then David Frisk found a door to get out of the dome but it was
by the edge of the dome.He called all the people in school to
follow him.With there belongings strapped to there back, and 100
mile per hour winds against them, somehow they maneged to get to
the door.Then David opens the door and lets everyone out.But
before he got out of the dome the door shut and locked itself and
then the dome foggesd and then the winds stopped.Then he looked
arouned.He saw the rubble of the school on the dome.When David
went to the center of the dome, he saw the school kitchen.He went
and made himself some food.After he ate, he made up camp.He put
down a blanket underneth some metal pices that made some
shelter.Then he laied down and tooked a nap.The next day he woke
up and went to the door.It was still locked.So David went to the
remaining part of the school,and got some breakfast.When he
looked at the rubble of the school he saw something glowing.When
he went to the glowing thing he saw that it was a key.He picked
it up.Then he packed up his belongings and, with the key, went to
the door.David saw a keyhole and put the key in the keyhole.When
he turned it,the door opened and he ran out.When he looked at the
school,he noticed that he was in the school playgrouned.He
somehow had went back in time.After lunch when he went
outside,the forcefild was not there.Somehow he had saved the
school.
