Witi

Character Design:  Ivan Mayne and Daveykins Foxfire
Species:  Aquatian-Human Hybird
Nationality:    New Zealand
Occupation:  Professional Rugby Player
Sword Knight
Sword:  Thunder
Fighting Style:  Maori Tradition and Rugby

Witi is considered a Godsend in the native people in his homeland, being born--or at least discovered--with the skin coloration of a while or some other amphibian creature.  Because of this, he was raised by his fellow tribesmen to prepare him for an unknown destiny that would be his to take.

He didn't want to just sit on his unique duff for that tradition, however, so he took up the sport of Rugby, moving up the ranks until he got into the professional All Black organization.  He would have ended up in the starting roster--doing his dream job of leading the infamous Haka--when that destiny finally showed up in the form of the Thunder Sword.

Witi brings his Maori heritage into the new International team, showing his warrior spirit in the battles, especially when it comes to the on-field banter.  And being an All Black, he naturally brought the Haka into the team.  In fact, there are some fights that end up being over before it even began:  They take one look at the imposing native kiwi going through 'Ka Mate" and the bad guys lose all control of their bodily functions.

However, for all the bluster and the power playing in battle, Witi could very possibily be the least violent character in the whole team.  He's really a pacifist in heart, wishing to end battles with as little bloodshed as possible.  In fact, he'll cringe when there's too much of it.  Expect him to use the flat side of the blade instead of the edge most of the time, and when a foe is clearly defeated, he won't even go for the kill; in fact, he might call the parametics to scrape the victim off the street.

But that's nothing compared to his domestic life.  He's a verifiable neat and clean freak, a rareity in male teens.  He usually spends most of his spare time doing house chores, which really makes jaws drop when they know how he's like with that Thunder Sword, or even worse, a Rugby ball.

I had a tenative sketch of Witi down in every way except the head.  Not only is it not pointed enough, it just didn't say Maori to Ivan, who really wanted to have some ethnicity in him.  Fortunately, he provided for a much needed refrence in the New Zealand animated series, Brotown.  Incorporating that style into Witi's face and hair provided for the excellent final piece in the puzzle, a much needed piece as well.
