Captain Olaf Character Design by Ivan Mayne and Daveykins Foxfire Species: Ram (Spirit) Nationality: Norway Sword Knights Status: Johnny's spiritual guide. Every Full Moon, Johnny's magical amulet attunes him to the spirit world. More specifically, it attunes him to what he thinks is the spirit trapped in that amulet. While he's convinces that it's a benevolent spirit--which is why he doesn't talk about it at first--the connection can be strong enough to overtake him if he allows it. He wanted at times to find out more about this spirit so he can find a way to take it to the needed eternal rest one day. He may get his wish during the story, where an important incident makes him research his ancestry, and eventually not only identifies this spirit, but brings them together face to face as well, which involves the reason why Sigurd is after him and all he holds dear. Captain Olaf was a Viking Captain of a sea-faring crew of explorers whose navigator was in fact Johnny's ancestor. (Could Johnny have the reincarnated spirit of that navigator? Perhaps, perhaps.) The amulet was this navigator's good luck charm as well as a much-needed light source. They encountered Sigurd during their adventures and using a lot of Norse magic--and a good amount of sacrifice on their part, imprisoned Sigurd in the Arctic ice cap. When the ice prison melted due to the Global Warming cycle, Olaf was stirred from his eternal rest. He wanted to bring Sigurd back to his prison, but had some problems with him being an old ghost. He didn't have an answer until he discovered the Navigator's Amulet around the neck of young Johnny Briz. It is unsure how much he had a hand in Johnny getting the Lightling Sword, which led him to the Sword Knights and his Buddhist path of enlightenment. But he was overjoyed when he finally got to meet and communicate with "young Frisby." He filled him in Sigurd and implored Johnny to "guide his friends and crew through the storms and seas they'll cross, leading them together twoard their victory, just as his ancestor had." Olaf also has some scenes during the story, especially with Sigurd and maybe even Ravanna |
