BEFORE YOU READ: The PFFL is a fighting tournament whose intent is to harmlessly poke fun at the decidedly (and delightfully) weird world of Pokemon fanfiction, particularly its SI and Mary Sue aspects... though we are not limited to those. The 16 contenders for this tournament were chosen based purely on popular vote. New characters beyond those sixteen will not be admitted until such time as we choose to hold another tournament, and another vote to determine who *those* sixteen contenders will be. The match outcomes are also determined by vote, and a ballot for the upcoming card can usually be found posted at our homepage, along with the tournament's brackets. All readers are invited to cast their votes regarding the outcome of future matches. The show's writers, however, do not vote in said ballot, and make no decisions regarding the outcome of matches save in the cases of a tie vote. You may send comments and criticisms to the writers via e-mail: Alicia Ashby: aashby@roanoke.edu Tim McLees: silvertooth@i-plus.net Enjoy the show! ______________________________________________________________ Thunder boomed in the darkened skies above the dull white walls of Indigo City's imperial citadel. The League Emperor, the ominous Lord Garrick, sat upon his granite throne, contemplating the rows of soldiers standing before him. He casually scratched the neck of his pitch-black Jolteon, which laid on the armrest of his grand chair. "Bring the girl forward," the grey figure snarled, clenching his gloved hand. The doors opposite Garrick's throne opened, and the one-eyed mercenary Dario Dariani stepped in, shoving a petite blue haired girl in a silver ninja gi along with him. The young Pokemon trainer-turned-warrior Arina Ketchum stumbled forward, now in the crossfire of the League soldiers' jeering and laughter. She glared defiantly up at the robed Emperor. "So, young Ketchum," Garrick began. "You thought you could actually sneak into my estate unnoticed?" Rocket United agent James Hallendale stepped from the shadows, off to the right the League Emperor. "She's just as much of an idealist airhead as her father," James scoffed. Arina shifted uneasily as the blue-haired villain smirked at her, lightning flashing in the distance. "At this rate, it'll be mere *child's play* to defeat Satoshi for the PFFL Championship," Crystal Dagger cooed as she stepped forward, her black plate armor glistening as she stepped into the light. "And indeed you shall..." Lord Garrick added ominously. "Live... *tonight!* At Pokemania!" The League Emperor and his League soldiers cackled victoriously as the thunder boomed outside, almost on cue. James, Dario, and Crystal Dagger, meanwhile, just eyed the Emperor warily. Garrick recovered and stood upright, clutching his gloved hand and giving the frightened Arina a predatory glare. "But first, to dispose of this child...." The League Emperor yanked off the glove and revealed his clawed three-fingered grey hand, much to Arina's horror. But before he could do whatever harm he had planned.... "ORB!" The side wall of the throne room erupted in a shower of stone and debris, blasting into a squadron of League troops. The remaining soldiers braced themselves, drawing their weapons and Pokeballs. From the newly made hole, two blurs shot forward, one golden brown, the other pitch black. They ricocheted off the remaining soldiers, knocking them to the ground. The streaks then rebounded back in front of the hole and landed. Now clearly visible, the rodent warriors Shadow Pikachu and Tenchu spun in tandem and posed defiantly before Garrick and his guard. "DADS!" Arina cheered. "Damn you, Ketchums!" the League Emperor roared and bolted off his throne, his dark Jolteon familar at his feet. Ashura swiftly leapt and landed by the two electric mice, while Satoshi carefully maneuvered through the blasted gap. "Sorry to arrive so unexpectedly. We must have lost our invitations," the Shadow Pokeninja retorted. "We knew you three would try to pull something before the show, James," Satoshi yelled. "Hmph... don't think this trite display has hindered us in the least, Ash," James scoffed. "Tonight at the Pay-Per-View... we'll see who has the last laugh!" Crystal Dagger stepped forward to face the trio of Ketchums, accompanied by her Pokemon companion Jynx. "Just you wait, Satoshi!" Crystal Dagger cooed, folding her arms. "After I show you all the tricks I've learned from Rocket United and the League Emperor... we'll see who's the best Pokemon trainer." "Count on it..." The two trainers glared bitterly at one another, as did their respective familiars, Tenchu and Jynx. Their golden and violet auras flared to life, flashing to consume the camera's view... as the Pokemania logo snapped into place. PTB PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS... POKEMANIA I FROM INDIGO PLATEAU The camera panned across the filled-to-capacity Pokemon Stadium from high above the traditional stone bleachers and earthen arena floor. "Welcome one and all to the heart of the Pokemon world!" Tony Schiavone proclaimed. "Welcome... to Pokemania!" "It's been a long road for the multiverse's premiere trainers," senior commentator Jim Ross added. "And what better place to finish PFFL's inaugural season than where it all started: Indigo Plateau!" Their bespectacled cohort Joey Styles nodded. "And it's here that former League champion Satoshi will test himself against the red-hot Crystal Dagger. Fellas, with the roll she's been on these last couple weeks, and her newfound alliance with Rocket United and Lord Garrick, she may well pull off a title victory." "Satoshi's never had the odds stacked against him like this before, folks," JR agreed. "He's got allies of his own backing him up, though." "Yes, but can even *they* stop the lethally evil force of Lord Garrick?" Tony interrupted. "Can't they just take his Black Chaos Pokeball away or something?" Joey shrugged. The trio's discussion was overwhelmed by the beginning of Metallium's "Revelation" and the resounding hum of engines. Shortly after, all four members of Team Revelation came sailing down the rampway on their hoverboards to the arena floor, accompanied by a solid array of jeers. "Looks like Ryan's entire entourage has crashed the party here at Pokemania." JR worried. "And I've never seen them this serious before." "Well, given the somber state of affairs in our sport, Ryan must have felt the need to speak out." Tony replied sagely. "He must be out here to give the fans moral support!" "Yes, from our Paragon of Virtue himself..." Joey groaned. "We are in turbulent times, my friends." Ryan began somberly. "Right now, from two worlds away, the Forces of Darkness are converging on this fair land." The younger members of Team Revelations nodded approvingly as he continued. "In these times, we need faith. We need hope. We need... heroes." The dark-haired Christian soldier turned to regard a second hovercam, lost in thought. "And what 'heroes' will we turn to in this time of need, hmm? The champion who *abandoned* you years ago, a man who's gone on to become a known terrorist, to say nothing of his questionable lifestyle?" "Edgerton's showing some gall talking about the hometown hero like this." JR shook his head in disdain. "Or even better, a practitioner of the black arts! A known assassin who may well have brought the nefarious League Emperor to our league. You'd leave your future in the hands of these two? I think not..." Ryan's tirade was interrupted by the glaring guitars of Metallica, prompting the elder Edgerton to snap his head off to the side, seeking the cause of the disturbance. Just then, a single stream of lightning short forth from the upper tiers of the stadium, causing the four silver-clad trainers to scatter. A short black blade embedded itself into the ground, attached to a long length of electrically charged black 'rope' that trailed upward. A moment later, a dark-clad figure from the higher stands began to slide down the charged line, gaining speed as he closed in on the arena floor. "Descending from the rafters, IT'S ASHURA! IT'S ASHURA!" Tony exclaimed enthusiastically. "Tony, we're in a damn coliseum. There aren't any rafters," JR grumbled. "Speak of the Devil and he shall appear," Joey exclaimed over the mixed reaction. "And... our crowd doesn't sound too thrilled that he's here." "Well, his brand of fighting ain't necessarily welcome in these parts,"Joey's WWF cohort added. Ashura released his grip on his line and leapt down, landing on his feet and skidding to a stop just short of Ryan Edgerton. The Christian trainer stood defiantly even as the cloud of dust kicked up by the Pokeninja's landing swept over him. "But Ashura's a *changed man*, gentlemen!" Tony affirmed. "He now fights for the forces of good!" "... right," Joey smirked. "Well... look who decided to show," Garrett addressed the robed warrior with indignation. "I think he's here to dispense his usual brand of justice, brother." Ashura regarded the younger Edgerton with a narrow and piercing gaze. Behind him, the electrically charged rope de-materialized, and the blade morphed into the familiar shape of Shadow Pikachu. "Pikachu can do magic things, apparently," Joey arched a brow. "Is there *anything* that mouse can't do?" JR wondered. "Indeed, Garrett," Ryan snorted. "As usual, our dark knight has come in to solve things the only way he knows how..." Ashura's gaze moved steadily over to the Team Revelations leader. "Let's take a little trip down Memory Lane, shall we?" Ryan smiled knowingly as he regarded the massive Mallytron screen, coming to life on cue to show Ashura's first battle against Hikaru Ketchum. "Even from the start, you've proven yourself as a merciless brawler, without remorse." " ...He *did* go over the top on some of his fights," JR reluctantly agreed. "But this is all in the past! Why show it now?" Tony wondered. "Yeah, why worry about continuity, Schiovane?" Joey remarked. "And do I even *need* to go into how you've made young Arina Ketchum succumb to your dark powers?" Ryan sneered. Ashura jerked his head slightly at the girl's name, unfolding his arms. "Gawd, what he did with Miss Arina..." JR shuddered as the after-math of her quarterfinal match with Ashura played. "... but this is all *ancient history* though, it doesn't impact who Ashura is *now*!" Tony attempted to defend the dark Pokeninja. "It was a whole two weeks ago, yes," Joey added. "And you nearly leveled Neo Hong Kong last week, with that *foul* creature, fiend!" Ryan raved, gesturing violently at Ashura's dark rodent familiar. On the giant screen above, Shadow Pikachu summoned the electrical maelstrom that is the Dark Thunder Apocalypse. "An attack akin to the Black Ultima that we saw years ago, guys...." JR pondered. "We're lucky that city's still in one piece," Joey added. "HEY! Don't look at that!" Their WCW counterpart protested. "Is *this* how a champion of justice behaves, Ashura?" Ryan Edgerton inquired. "I can only hope your daughter can be saved before she-- " The cloaked shadow warrior took a swift step forward, his concealed face just inches away from the Christian youth's. His teammates reflexively reached for their belts to draw their Pokemon, Garrett vigilantly standing beside his brother, waiting for Ashura's next move. "Arina Ketchum is of no concern of yours, Edgerton," Ashura finally hissed after a tense moment of silence. "Your business... is with me." Ryan arched a brow and smiled aloofly, turning his head slightly to glance at his companions. "So... you plan to slaughter four unarmed trainers to prove yourself." At that, the cloaked warrior gave an alarmingly casual smile of his own and stepped back. "Who said I was alone?" The dark-haired youth froze in silent horror as the J-pop singing of "La Soldier" began. In a dazzling gold flash that contrasted heavily against Ashura and Shadow Pikachu's dark indigo auras, the anthropomorphic electric mouse senshi flashed into existence, twirling gracefully before landing beside Ashura. She flashed a smile to the dazed Ryan Edgerton, and the prudish young man immediately responded by darting behind Garrett. Jenna, Team Revelation's token female, advanced to confront Sailor Pikagirl. "Unlikely couple...." Joey blinked, confused. "Amanda's had several run-ins with Team Revelations before, folks," JR explained. "Looks like she's finally gotten fed up with Ryan's ravings...." "Well, no surprise to see you at his defense, Pokemorph," Garrett spat. "Look, *pal*!" The yellow-skinned senshi interrupted, scowling at the younger Edgerton. "I'm just a little tired of you condemning me just because I look different and shoot lighting!" Sailor Pikagirl took a deep breath and stepped back, edging toward a vaguely confused-looking Ashura. "This is my fight, woman," the dark warrior grumbled. "It's none of your concern." "Listen, they've been looking down on us for weeks, just because we're different!" she exclaimed. "... message coming in," Joey Styles snickered as Amanda's tirade continued. "If they want to take you out... they've got to go through me first!" Sailor Pikagirl proclaimed, putting her hands on her waist and posing mightily before the Christian youth. Ryan winced again, peeking nervously over his younger brother's shoulder. "A challenge then, Pikagirl? Very well," Garrett nodded. "But one condition: League rules, none of your fancy powers... or are you that positive you'll be defeated without them?" The Pikachu senshi scowled and was enveloped in a blinding gold glow. When the glow died down, Amanda stood before Team Revelations in her human form, clothed in denim jeans and a tank top. She smiled a cunning smile as Garrett looked at her, backing up silently. "That's better!" Ryan finally recovered. "Next, you can put on a sensible long coat, too!" All eyes turned to Ashura, who had been silently observing Amanda and Team Revelation's exchange. He simply closed his eyes... and summoned a crackling indigo field of electricity around himself. Amanda edged away from the dark energies, while Ryan defiantly steadied himself. Once the Shadow energies faded away, Ashura was without his cloak, now clothed in his sleek sleeveless black shirt and baggy ninja pants and boots. He shot a dark grin over to Ryan, casually casting his dark lengthy bangs out of his eyes with a wave of his hand. "You're on," was his simple reply. "Very well then!" Ryan agreed. "The two of you against me and brother Garrett. Let us prepare, team!" The Team Revelations leader waited for a response. Finding none, he looked about and noticed both Jenna and Garrett, blushing in stunned silence. Annoyed, he gripped both of their shoulders and gave them a sudden shake. "Come on! We've got a match to prepare for!" "Team Revelations, Pikagirl *and* Ashura! Together in this very ring, tonight!" Tony exclaimed. "That's gonna be some incredible tag-team action!" "Yes, but can Team Revelations overcome this duo's latent booty powers...." Joey wondered. "...where the hell is that boy's ribcage?" JR questioned in astonishment. "Guys should *not* look like that...." "It's best not to think about it, Jim," Joey concluded awkwardly. "In any event, Pokemania is *finally* underway," Tony enthused, oblivious to his cohorts' conversation. Roars of guitars started off as Godsmack's "Keep Away" blared throughout the Pokemon Stadium. A mixed reaction welcomed the trenchcoat-clad man as he walked through the parted curtains at the top of the nearby rampway. He paused momentarily to give a bemused smirk to the audience, glancing at the dwarfed humanoid Fighting Pokemon at his side before proceeding down to the arena floor. "We're starting off with Adauchi's return to the Indigo Plateau, folks," JR began. "And it sounds like his reputation as a trainer is still well known in these parts." "Keep in mind he was known as quite a cutthroat in his younger days, Jim," Joey reminded. "And I'm betting he's glad this is just a Standard match after the beating he took last week." The cheerful melody of the opening theme to Magic Knight Rayearth, "Yuzerenai Negai" began, signaling the return of one of PFFL's first competitors.... "And here's a face we haven't seen in a while, gentlemen." Joey informed. The petite ponytailed redhead Hikaru Ketchum strode down the rampway, beaming smiles to the nearby spectators. Her white marshmallow-like companion Mokona bounced merrily behind her. "I'm surprised Hikaru returned after her beating at the hands of Ashura at the beginning of this season." "It's good to have her back, though," JR added. "But she'll be in for a brutal match against this seasoned trainer." "Is Hikaru ready for her next battle!" Tony inquired to no one in particular. "Time to give it your best shot!" "... umm, Schiavone, buddy?" Joey glanced over to his enthusiastic WCW counterpart. ADAUCHI vs HIKARU KETCHUM Standard League Rules "Finally! I'm going to have my first real Pokemon battle!" Hikaru beamed. "You ready, Mr Adauchi?" Adauchi arched his brow, eyeing the young redhead curiously, then emitted a snort. He smirked and withdrew his pokeball. His Hitmonlee lazily sank to the ground and sat cross-legged next to him, well within the confines of the trainer's box. "Off to a roaring start," Hikaru dead-panned, detaching her single Pokeball from her belt. "Puu..." Mokona replied. "Well..." The young schoolgirl steeled herself. "Go for it, Charmeleon!" "Not a good start from Miss Shidou...." Tony shook his head. "Did she have her breakfast today? She should have known better than to start with her usual Fire-type Pokemon." "A mistake Adauchi's more than willing to exploit," Joey added. The silent gunman toggled the switch of his Pokeball, summoning a single red beam of energy that grew into the massive stone serpent Onix. Adauchi smiled with approval as his rock Pokemon stretched itself to its full height, craning its head back down to the small red dragon below. "Fellas, Onix is easily one of the most monstrous things I've seen during my time here in the PFFL," JR remarked. With alarming speed, the segmented earth Pokemon darted its head into the earth, kicking up a barrage of rock and dirt towards Charmeleon's direction. "And Adauchi's looking to end this early with a Rock Throw!" Joey yelped. "She better be careful," Tony worried as the fiery Pokemon desperately wove out of the way of the incoming hail of rocks. "Just one hit from Onix's barrage could take it down." "Wait for an opening, Charmeleon." Hikaru concentrated, waiting for a pause in her opponent's attack. "There! Hit it with a Slash attack!" "Charmeleon's closing in on the massive Onix!" JR exclaimed. "...but his claws didn't do a *thing* against his earthy hide." "Oh... she needs to push herself harder if she wants to keep up in this battle," Tony noted somberly. The red lizard Pokemon continued with his seemingly ineffective assault, scraping his foreclaws against Onix's flank. The rock Pokemon looked down curiously, almost bored with its opponent. "Likewise, Adauchi's being much too aloof against Hikaru here," Joey protested. "A Magic Knight's nothing to take lightly. She's bound to have some tricks here...." "Dammit, pay attention to me!" Hikaru snarled to the Lone Gunman, who returned with an indignant smirk. "Flamethrower!" Charmeleon inhaled deeply, opened its mouth, and let sail a stream of fire that flowed over Onix's side. "Hikaru's tactics are *still* having little affect against this Rock Pokemon," Tony informed. "Onix is now slinging its tail around, *casually* slapping Charmeleon away with a solid hit!" Hikaru emitted a furious snarl as the silent hitman across from her folded his arms and shook his head. Onix shared its owner's indignation, cocking its head in bemusement as Charmeleon returned to his feet. "That's it! I've had enough from you two!" the redhead finally yelled. "Charmeleon, Dragon Rage!" "Good Gawd! That li'l dragon's powering up!" JR yelped as Charmelon tensed up and roared, a crimson aura encircling its short frame. "You were right, Styles. Charmeleon's got some mystic tricks of his own." "Indeed he does and-- holy crap! It just went airborne!" Joey raved as Charmeleon leapt into the air with a surge of red energies. "That finally got Adauchi's attention!" Tony proclaimed as the red dragon Pokemon slammed into Onix's chin. Charmeleon thrust its fists forward, channeling more flame as his aura further ground against the stone serpent. "Charmeleon's showing some awesome moves here tonight, but can he take the big 'Mon down?" Onix growled in protest as Charmeleon's flames engulfed his head before he finally forced his neck out of the way and sunk low to the side of the hovering red Pokemon. "Onix managed to break Charmeleon's move and--" JR began until, with a brief surge of speed, the rock Pokemon snapped his head against Charmeleon, sending it plummeting to the ground. "Onix with a Headbutt! And it looks like that li'l dragon's out cold." "Hikaru's earned points for trying, but she couldn't match Adauchi's experience and Onix's toughness." Joey somberly added. The young girl furrowed her brow as she unsummoned her injured red lizard. "Miss Shidou is down to her last Pokemon!" Tony announced obliviously. "She's at a 1-on-2 disadvantage!" "What are you talking about, Schiavone?" JR interrupted. "Isn't Charmeleon her only Pokemon?" "Well, it says in tonight's notes that she registered with two tonight." The former WCW announcer shrugged. "Maybe she'll have that marshmallow thing fight." Joey Styles suddenly froze in mute horror in realization. "Hikaru isn't gonna bring *him* out is she?..." The redhead peered down to her enthusiastic white companion, patting his head. "Think you can pull this off, Mokona?" "Puu puu!" "Well then... I choose you, Mokona!" "Sweet Jesus on a pogo stick, Mokona's entering the ring," Joey stammered, removing his glasses to rub his forehead. "Still looks like a weird Clefairy to me," JR shrugged. "You'll see what I'm talking about, Jim...." Adauchi arched a brow as the vaguely rabbit-like creature scampered into the ring, emitting chipper "puupuus" as he stopped before the baffled rock Pokemon. The Lone Gunman narrowed its eyes and gestured bitterly to Mokona. "Onix rams his head into the ground, calling up another Rock Throw!" Tony called out. "But Mokona's not paying attention, he needs to pay attention or--" The merry white creature paused with a smile as the tidal wave of earth barreled towards him... and a shimmering globe materialized around him. Mokona cocked his head as large boulders bounced harmlessly of the barrier. "Absolutely *no damage* from that rock-solid serpent!" JR gasped. "What kind of power does that marshmallow have!?" "Now it's my turn! Mokona... Metronome!" "Puupuu," Mokona brought up its forepaws, quietly chittering as it motioned rhythmically. "Adauchi's motioning for Onix to advance, gonna try and intercept Mokona's attack...." Joey said uneasily as the massive segmented serpent lunged downward to Mokona. "PUU!" Mokona's ivory aura flashed out and channeled into a wide gleaming beam of energy. A blinding flash consumed the stadium as Mokona's attack collided with Onix.... When the light died out, the rock serpent was laying limp against the stone barrier at the edge of the arena floor. A deep trench showed the path he took as he was shoved out of the ring by the driving surge of power. "Hyper Beam from Mokona took Onix out in one blow!" Tony enthused. "What technique!" "That li'l guy just *one-shotted* Onix. Just what in Gawd's name is Mokona," JR uttered. "Precisely," Joey dead-panned. "In an event, Aduachi's bringing in his remaining Pokemon," Tony announced. The biped Fighter hopped up to its feet, limbering up with a flurry of practice kicks before striding into the ring."Hitmonlee may well be in for the fight of its life." "Hikaru's trying her luck again it looks like. Metronome sure as hell worked before though...." JR wondered as Mokona once more hopped side to side in time. Hitmonlee continued to methodically advance toward the unknown creature. "Pupuu... puu?" Mokona paused as it began to emit a thick grey smoke, soon cloaking itself in the thick cloud. "That didn't quite work, did it?" Joey blinked. "This may actually be the chance Adauchi needs here...." The brown humanoid readied itself, bracing into a powerful stance, before dashing forward toward the cloud. With a sudden hop he leapt into the cloud, snapping his left leg forward into a sharp and sudden kick. A shocked "PUU!" yelped from the cloud, as Mokona was sent stumbling backward from the Smog. "Hitmonlee connects with the Hi Jump Kick!" JR exclaimed. "But he's gonna have to keep the heat on to take that fella down." "And he's pouring on the combination moves tonight!" Tony exalted and the martial artist Pokemon continued his assault. "Attacking with a virtual *flurry* of kick attacks!" "It would appear Mokona picked up the Normal-type weakness to Fighting moves when he came here, fellas," Joey wondered as the white creature struggled, managing to Double Slap away some of Hitmonlee's Double Kicks. "Which means Adauchi *could* have a chance if he keeps in close...." "PUU!" Mokona yelped in protest, once more summoning his white aura, knocking the brown Fighter off its feet. The ivory rabbit fumed cutely, nursing some of the purple-ish spots on its side where Hitmonlee had delivered his blows. "Heh," Hikaru smirked. "Thought I'd be a pushover, huh? Mokona's got one more surprise for you! Go to it... Hyper Metronome!" The doughy white creature smiled merrily, gesturing with its stubby arms in time as Hitmonlee methodically circled around it. "This can't be good for Hitmonlee..." Joey fretted, shaking his head. "Mokona can pretty much pull off whatever it wants to. Looks like he's getting ready to strike." Mokona's expression took on a cutely stern glare as he posed stifly with its arms raised. The brown humanoid nodded with approval, tightening his fists, and slid the edge of his left leg into the dirt in front of him. Suddenly... Mokona's holy aura took on a more ethereal form and expanded, taking on a vaguely Rapidash-like shape.... "Looks like Adauchi's having Hitmonlee go for his Rolling Kick!" Tony announced as the biped Pokemon rolled forward and leapt into the air, twisting into a graceful savate kick... "Puupuupuu... Puu PUU PUU!" Mokona suddenly flung his short forepaws into a blinding wave of punches, a maelstrom of spherical bursts roaring towards his opponent. Hitmonlee flailed in midair as the barrage of strikes collided, sending him spinning to the ground below, dazed. For one rare moment, Adauchi was dumbstruck, his dark round glasses slipping slightly as his Hitmonlee spiraled to the ground. "Oh for the love of...." Joey choked. "Mokona connects for *major damage!*" Tony enthused. "Hitmonlee's recovering though, but Adauchi seems at a total loss for words!" "That's not surprising from our silent gunman, Tony," JR corrected. "But I honestly don't think anyone was expecting such a scintillating attack." "Or one so... multiversal," Joey gaped. "Mokona's still feeling his cosmos, it would seem, and looks to be setting up for another assault." The pudgy rabbit creature shot across in a white blur towards its prey. Hitmonlee remained ducked low on one knee until Mokona was almost on top of him... "Mokona's approaching... Hitmonlee just lept to his feet and--"Tony's commentary cut off as the Fighter Pokemon snapped his leg almost completely vertical, launching the white rabbit airborne. "MEGA KICK! Hitmonlee's got a field goal with that strike!" "Don't count this battle done yet, Tony." JR warned as Mokona's spinning slowed until he was hovering in midair, its back turned towards Hitmonlee as he brought his paws close to his side. "Puuu..." A gleaming golden aura replaced Mokona's silver-white as a shimmering gold ball of energy hummed into existence between its forepaws. "PUUU..." The creature from Cephiro spread his hands further apart to accommodate the expanding sphere of power. Down on the ground, Hitmonlee widened his eyes, gazing at the strange and powerful being above him. "Pu PUUU..." The trio of PFFL announcers looked up at the empowered Mokona as its energies reached critical mass, then back at one another. "We aren't seeing this," they all agreed in unison. "PUUUU!" Mokona shoved its paws forward, launching the golden energies it had gathered into a single searing beam of destruction. The arena floor was consumed in dust and debris as the nigh-Saiyan power energy blast impacted the floor, a stunned gasp filling the stadium. The smoke eventually cleared, revealing a wide crater in the battle ring, and Hitmonlee sprawled at the edge of the blast zone, having narrowly evaded the blast. It shuttered and spun to face its master, gesturing in protest. Adauchi returned its frustrations, shrugging and grimacing bitterly. Mokona closed his eyes and began to concentrate, tightening a small fist, dramatically chanting an array of "Puu's". He peered over to see Hitmonlee managing to rise to his feet. Rays of golden-green light shimmered from his paw, a pink heart materializing on the back of it. "Great shades of Elvis!" JR raved. "Mokona's gettin' ready to deliver the coup de grace!" "Puu *puu* Puu Puu!... PUU-PUUU... PUPUUUU!" In a flare of gold light, Mokona sailed forward. Hitmonlee wearily turned to engage his opponent... and the white rabbit-like being thrust its short paw forward into his face. The brown Fighter's eyes widened in shock as the initial effects of Mokona's attack hit him, and flailed his arms in pain an instant before Mokona's green aura flashed and enveloped the battle ring. "Take my heart away!" Tony exclaimed. "Devastating finisher from Mokona!" "Unbelievable...." JR breathed. "How the heck did that girl lose in the opening rounds again?" "Not evil enough, I guess." Joey shrugged, still stunned. The light from Mokona's devastating chi attack finally faded away, leaving a very unconscious Hitmonlee at Mokona's feet, eyes spinning in a daze. Adauchi had been thrown back away from his trainer's box, and was sprawled across the ground, covered in soot. His trademark shades sat crookedly on his nose. Mokona hopped and spun about, triumphantly Puu-puuing as Hikaru rushed into the ring. The redheaded school girl wrapped her arms around it in an enormous hug. Adauchi looked on at the victorious pair, eyes wide in shock. Then, the Lone Gunman reached up to realign his round- rimmed sunglasses before uncharacteristically breaking his silence. "This has officially been the goofiest month of my entire life." "Hit-Hitmon..." Hitmonlee coughed from the ground. "Hell of an opening match to start off our first Pokemania!" JR approved. "And an exceptional final showing from Hikaru and Mokona." "Next up on tonight's card is a grudge match that's been developing since the opening rounds of this tournament," Tony began. "Felixman, the slightly more sane member of the Partnerz in Kryme, was eliminated early at the hands of fan favorite Messila Samatha Wetall," Joey continued. The rhythms of Limp Biskit's "My Way" began, signaling the arrival of the aforementioned duo. They casually walked down the rampway, greeted with a hail of jeers. Flanking them was the Poisonous Bad Ass, the spiked Nidoking, wearing his ever-present bandana and shades. Also alongside was the pre-teen mallrat Skye Dream, once more in her usual Misty-esque attire. "Since then, these self-proclaimed American badasses have been terrorizing Messila and her cousin Kate Ringer," JR added somberly. "And their numbers have grown on the way," Joey informed. "Luckily, one Ben Masters has stepped up to the plate to defend the Thinker Girls in their time of need," Tony reminded. "And it looks like the Partnerz wish to address the fans here in Indigo Plateau...." "It's good to be back here in Indigo Plateau, had a great title run before...." Felixman smirked. "And I *would* have one again, if it wasn't for that that little bitch Messila!" The brown haired young man blinked before randomly turning to a nearby hovercam. "...what?" "Our hometown trainers, America...." JR commented flatly. "Oh goody, gratuitous attempts to get over," Joey smirked. The trenchcoat-wearing youth continued. "You and your cuz Kate are *so* off the clue bus it ain't funny. What?" The crowd quieted somewhat as Felixman continued on his tirade. "Perhaps they've been listening to too much of that hard rock music?" Tony wondered. "Felixman can't hear the crowd." "David Kronos did this so much better, really," Joey shrugged. "What I said is that you two need is some class, like our newest Partner, the *fine* lass Skye Dream." "Umm..." JR mumbled as the dark-haired youth smiled enthusiastically for the camera, waving to the crowd. "Should someone tell those boys that their hottie valet is 12?" "Which brings to our business with *you*, Benny. What?" Felixman continued. "Ya stuck your nose and your stupid glasses where they didn't belong. So bring your ass and your fat little Pokemon down to our yard and get some." "That's right, Kung Fu Man!" Ded interrupted, posing dramatically. "You aren't gonna take us again, punk. There's no mats out here, homeboy!" "YES! You are the King of the World! Your dance will save us all!" From atop the rampway, the silhouette of Ben Masters stood, highlighted by the nearby lighting, as the Dance Dance Revolution mix of "Kung Fu Fighting" continued. He took a moment to adjust his gloves before he made his way to the arena floor, his Porygon companion Eliza hovering behind him. Felixman was the first to draw his Pokeball, whipping his coat dramatically as he readied his first Pokemon. Ben looked to the irate youth with a disarming smile, adjusting his glasses. "Whoa, settle, Felixman..." said the bespectacled young man. "You'd be a pretty cool Trainer if you'd calm yourself sometimes. And stop trying to act all bad ass-- I mean, for Pete's sake, What is your gimmick now." Felixman gave an annoyed glare to Ben. "What is?" "My point exactly." "...What?" "Yes." "You're asking me what my gimmick is now? "No, I'm *telling* you What is your current gimmick." "How the hell should I know what you're talking about!" "Now you're finally seeing What is wrong with your gimmick." "What is?" "Precisely." "GAAAAHHH!" Ded finally screamed. "Just kick this fool's ass, homeslice!" "Right!" Felixman finally recovered, pitching his Pokeball forward. "... and they say vaudeville's dead." JR blinked. BEN MASTERS vs FELIXMAN Standard League Rules "Let's get this show on the road! Go kick some ass, Primeape!" the surly youth commanded, as a feral bipedal furball shimmered into view. "Get ready, Eliza," Ben ordered his digital companion into the ring. "Felixman's starting off with an edge thus far," Tony pondered. "Starting with a Fighting type Pokemon." "He's got a versatile enough collection to trump most opponents with type advantages," Joey analyzed. "What normally gets him is the lack of control. Let's see if he can correct his prior mistakes...." "Thanks for the punching dummy, Benny," Felixman sneered. "Hit it with a Karate Chop!" The monkey Pokemon leapt forward in a blur and swiped a lighting fast knife-edged chop. "Quick chop connects for a critical hit!" JR exclaimed. "... and earned a few 'Whooos' from our capacity crowd," Joey noticed. Eliza recoiled from the impact, a section of her side flashing red with pain. "Ya got her on the run, bro! Keep it up with Fury Swipes!" "Felixman's pressing the advantage," JR announced. "Almost has Eliza backed all the way over the edge of the ring...." "Eliza, Teleport before he shoves you out!" Ben shouted. "A-Affimative." The Porygon evenly responded, recoiling from the blows. She shimmered out of the way of Primeape's jab, fading back into view behind him. "Feh..." Felixman snorted. "Primeape... Cross Chop." "That ape's spinning back around..." JR began, just before Eliza got slammed with another knife edge chop to her beak. "And *another* hellacious chop from that damn monkey!" Primeape's other arm swept across to hammer a forceful palm strike that launched the virtual Pokemon into the center of the ring, portions of her polygonal body smoking with heat and cracking from pressure. Eliza attempted to struggle back into the air, but finally collapsed to the ground. "Super Effective!" Tony enthused. "Eliza is down and out, putting Ben at a three-on-one disadvantage!" Ben Masters sighed with a shake of his head before unsummoning her, then clipped his Pokeball back to his belt. "Hmm... most disconcerting," Ben observed, offering a somber look. "But now, Felixman, you face the supreme fighting machine! Come on out... Snorlax!" The Moo Gi Gong martial artist dramatically thrust forward his remaining Pokeball, firing off a red energy beam that promptly increased in size, solidifying into the familiar massive bear Pokemon. "Ben's summoned his super heavyweight to finish the match." Joey affirmed as Snorlax emitted a lazy growl, rolling to its side. "And it looks like he's displaying his usual level of energy." The two male Partnerz in Kryme blinked at the dozing Normal type Pokemon, then nearly collapsed on each other in laughter. "And those boys aren't taking Ben Masters seriously at *all*," Jim Ross disapproved. "This man's an experienced martial artist and Pokemon trainer!" "Let's see how Felixman reacts to Ben's unorthodox Pokemon choice!" Tony added. "Pound this tub of lard into the ground, Primeape! Karate Chop!" the surly young man ordered. Felixman's monkey warrior shrieked in fury as raised its gloved arms and slapped a knife edged strike... causing no response from the slumbering Pokemon. "Strangely, Primeape's moves are having little effect." Tony blinked. "Gentlemen, aren't Fighters normally strong against Normal types?" "Apparently, Snorlax has been trained to suck up such attacks," Joey pondered, impressed. "He seems to be sleeping quite happily there...." The snarling Primeape became increasingly enraged, sporadically kicking and punching the sleeping bear as it circled around. It even went so far as to climb atop its massive belly and begin jumping up and down, stomping with both feet. "Oh this is such shit!" Ded protested, "What's it gonna take to get that plushie's attention?!" "You've yet to understand Snorlax's unbeatable style," Ben smiled approvingly. Primeape continued its fevered stomping, not noticing the shadow swinging over him as the bear Pokemon shifted and swung its paw around the irate monkey, ensnaring it in its grip. "And Snorlax has that wild monkey firmly in its clutches!" JR raved. "It's bearing down with a crushing grip--" "Actually, I think Snorlax seems oblivious to the match, Jim. Check it out..." Joey interrupted. Sure enough, the snoozing Pokemon had wrapped a massive paw around Primape and rolled over on its side, using Primape as a makeshift pillow. The brown-furred Pokemon flailed in protest, but between getting crushed by both Snorlax's grip and being pinned into the ground, it soon lost consciousness. "AMIGO!" Tony exalted. "Ben's defeated the first of Felixman's Pokemon!" " 'Amigo'?" Tony's cohorts simultaneously asked in bewilderment. "Surprising turn of events for the Partnerz in Kryme." Tony continued without missing a beat. "And Felixman's going for his second Pokemon!" "That does it! If I can't pound it, I'm gonna fry that fatass instead!" Felixman snickered, flinging his second Pokeball out into the ring. "Light him up, Jolteon!" The yellow, spike-furred canine shimmered into life, narrowing its black eyes up to the snoring bear. "He's going for Jolteon," Joey informed. "Very much a statement of Felixman's wide arsenal, it has many different element-types with which to attack his foes." "It's gonna have to do a lot to wake this sleeping giant, folks," JR wondered. Jolteon braced itself and the air surrounding it began to distort and ripple, taking on a golden glow. "Looks like it's starting well enough with a Thunderwave." The yellow canine focused, channeling the sonic distortions into a cone shaped mass that consumed Snorlax. It jerked with a start, slowly opening its eyes and looking about, mildly annoyed. Jolteon snarled cutely, sinking low to the ground as its mane of spiked fur began to crackle. "That woke it up, eh, Benny!" Ded sneered. "Time for the pain, boys. Pin Missle!" his older cohort called out. The electric canine Pokemon let sail a salvo of silver energy spikes. Snorlax jerked and grumbled, scanning the area lazily for the source of its annoyance. "Jolteon looks ready for the kill, he's charging up for another electrical attack! This may well take that bear out!" JR exclaimed. Jolteon's crackling aura flared just before it launched a Thunderbolt square into Snorlax's wide flank. It jerked reflexively and slowly craned its head around to peer down to the sneering, sparking Jolteon. Snorlax narrowed its small black eyes, furrowing its brow before exhaling a deep annoyed sigh. "... you have awakened the sleeping dynamo," Ben warned, flashing his arm to the side dramatically. "Now! Receive your retribution!" Snorlax closed its eyes once more and lurched back to the ground, curling into a ball. It shifted its weight... then teetered into a tumbling roll towards the surprised Jolteon. "...crap! Dude! Jolteon! Move away before you're--" Ded raved, but too late. Jolteon attempted to dive out of the way of Snorlax's Rollout, but still got flattened. At the end of its path of destruction, the rotund bear settled back into its nap. Felixman flung his overcoat to the ground and kicked it, swearing violently. "Everybody's cheering for Ben's impressive style!" Tony exclaimed. "Somehow managing to take out two Pokemon in a row with minimal damage." "And he doesn't seem to be aware that he's even in a fight," JR wondered aloud. "He's so sleepy he can barely stay awake," Joey quipped. "But that leaves one last Pokemon for-- Waitasec... Ded's stepping forward again...." "Dude, this is most dubious," Ded noted, looking over to his glowering friend. "Gimme the chance to put this four-eyed freak away." "... go to it," Felixman spat bitterly. "Ya heard him, bro!" The blonde lad cackled gleefully as he gestured to the sitting Nidoking, who had glared intently at the great bear Pokemon since he first appeared. The spiked purple Pokemon leapt to his feet, slowly drawing his dark glasses off his snout and casting them to the side as he entered the circle. "Coming in for the Partnerz in Kryme is the Poisonous Badass, Nidoking!" Tony gasped. "He's been chomping to get into the ring with Snorlax!" "And... and it looks like that bear's taken notice of Bikerking as well," JR observed as the white bear grumbled slightly, turning to watch the incoming poisonous Pokemon. "And he's getting up! Folks this is the most active we've actually seen him!" Standing fully upright, Snorlax towered over the powerful Nidoking by at least a foot. The poison monster paced up to the stationary grey bear, regarding him with a contemptuous fanged smirk. "Damn... Snorlax always looked big, but now that he's actually standing up... Guys, he's huge!" Joey stammered. "I guess he was just waiting for an interesting enough opponent." "It's Go Time, homey!" Ded shouted. "Fury Attack, now!" "Nidoking begins with a flurry of swipes!" Tony started, as the venomous biped Pokemon rapidly swung at the white bear. "And... is it me or is Snorlax actually dodging those swings?" "For once, you're right, Tony." JR grudgingly agreed. "That bear's managing to duck and weave out of the way of those venomous claws!" With each swipe, Snorlax simply lurched and leaned away from Nidoking's path, all the while remaining directly in front of the purple beast. "C'mon! Are ya chicken, Benny!? Attack!" Ded taunted, cackling in glee. "Fury Cutter!" "Nidoking feints an uppercut!" Joey yelped as the Poisonous Badass spun his wrist to unleash his claws. "And *good God* he just cut Snorlax!" "Now wail on this lardass, bro!" Ded commanded. "Thrash!" The bandana-sporting Nidoking roared mightily, lunging toward its massive opponent. Snorlax continued to sway side to side to avoid the barrage of kicks and punches. Finally, the bear closed its eyes and began to edge backwards, bringing its arms up to protect itself from the increasingly rapid blows. "And Nidoking's pouring on the speed now! Quite obviously, Ben Masters was deceived by his stocky physique." Tony solemnly noted, earning a pair of groans from his partners beside him. "And finishes with a double fisted blow that staggers the big bear almost to the edge of the ring!" "Snorlax has been all defense thus far." Joey wondered aloud. "It's still a wonder he was able to suck up Nidoking's combination strikes." "Feh... Pathetic," Felixman snickered, elbowing his younger blonde cohort. "That damn plushie's too weak to fight back." "On the contrary," Ben Masters called back with a knowing smile. "I've already won." "Bullshit." "See for yourself," The martial arts expert gestured out to the battle in front of them. "True, Nidoking possesses exceptional strength and speed, but you have him channel that skill through uncontrolled rage. Already, he is fatigued..." Indeed the venomous spiked Pokemon, while grinning with a fanged maw, was nonetheless breathing heavily, its massive plated shoulders rising and sinking as it held its clawed fists clenched. "On the other hand," Ben continued as his Snorlax returned to a more relaxed posture, despite the beating it just withstood. "Each move Snorlax makes is simple, controlled, and with purpose." Snorlax peered over to the annoyed poisonous beast, casually letting his forepaws sway at his side. "He is still, until forced to move. Even a gentle pond can become a powerful waterfall... Behold! The full power of the Stance of Still Water!" "Oh, shut your trap, Miyagi!" The surly blonde youth spat. "It's go time! Horn Drill!" "Nidoking's rushing in to gore Snorlax!" Joey exclaimed. "Ben better do something or his Pokemon's history..." "Snorlax! Pound!" Ben enthused, thrusting his fist forward dramatically. "He's lunging in to counter," JR began as the grey bear lurched to the side and thrust forward an open palm. "And gets in the first strike! Just shoved the Poisonous Badass back a few steps though...." "He's gonna have to do better than that, four-eyes!" Felixman taunted. "Nidoking's coming back with a side kick." Joey started, "And, *once more* Snorlax ducks in for an open pawed punch to the shoulder! But the Partnerz in Kryme are not backing down!" The spiked beast growled in frustration, then stood up to his full height, working the pain out of his shoulder by rotating his flexed arm. The male Partnerz snickered confidently as Nidoking readied himself, why Ben Masters stood silently with a smile, arms folded. "Looks like Nidoking's readying for a clothesline!" Tony announced. "And *there he goes!* He's rushing forward for the lariat and--" "Now is the time! Show us your moves, Snorlax!" Ben exclaimed with gusto. "Double Slap Technique!" The normally inert Pokemon grunted with approval as he brought his forepaws up. Nidoking's snarl of confidence quickly faded as he received an unusually swift paw to the chest... followed by another... and another.... "Oh my *God!* Snorlax just went sumo on the Partnerz' mascot here!" Joey yelped as the bear Pokemon continued its sudden flurry of offense. "That sudden beatdown just knocked Nidoking to the ground." "... looks like Felixman was fooled by Snorlax's stocky physique, too," Tony blinked, legitimately stunned. The rotund bear Pokemon held his arms aloft, his left leg poised in a bewildering state of near-grace. The prone Nidoking gave the massive white Pokemon standing above him a contemptuous glare, spitting off to the side. He lurched back to his feet and raised his clawed hands back up, which glowed with a venomous green aura. "Nidoking's setting up once more for one of its trademark Fury Cutter!" JR exclaimed. "But that bear's intercepted him once more! He's grabbed a hold of his claws. Both juggernauts are locked in a hellacious test of strength!" "These two giants are attempting to gain some ground, maybe even shove each other out of the ring!" Joey added as Nidoking's arms began to strain. "But it looks like Ben was right: Bikerking's initial assault seems to have worn him out. Snorlax is managing to back the Poisonous Badass up!" "Yo, don't take that shit, man!" Ded protested. "Ya got him where you need him... for the Double Kick!" "Nidoking leaps up... and connects with a super-effective drop kick! Breaking the hold *and* causing some serious damage to Snorlax," Tony called out. "Nidoking's the first on his feet, he's clutching his throat and we all know what *that* means...." "He looks ready to finish him with a Toxic breath weapon," Joey finished. "Don't give up yet, Snorlax!" Ben protested, earning a weary groan from the rotund Pokemon as it struggled to get back up. "You are an object at rest that *cannot be stopped!* Headbutt!" "Snorlax rolls back up on his feet-- " Joey continued, cut off as the grey bear suddenly rocketed forward from its crouch, sailing head first toward the surprised Nidoking. "--WHAT THE HELL!?" "Gravity-defyin' attack knocks the spiked monster off his feet!" JR exclaimed. "Snorlax is keeping the pressure on... tumbling into another Rollout!" "That rock-type attack won't do much against Nidoking," Joey dismissed as the bear curled up and barreled into the venomous spiked Pokemon. "He's blocking it well enough, but *is* getting shoved back to the edge of the ring...." "Heh. Too little, too late, Kung Fu Man!" Felixman snorted. "We gotcha now!" Ded added. "Bro! Hit 'im with the Mach Punch!" "Nidoking's ducking low and readying for a haymaker...." Tony began in anticipation. "But Snorlax just broke out of his roll and lunged in!" "That's it, Snorlax!" Ben encouraged, "You're a fighting machine! Close in!" "He's got a hold around Nidoking's waist, side-steps...." JR uttered. "And pitches him over the edge with a *hard* Body Slam!" "A classic and *crushing* sumo throw just won Ben Masters the match!" Joey enthused as "Kung Fu Fighting" returned to the stadium's audio system. Ded's eyes went wide and he sank to his knees, gaze fixed on his defeated Nidoking. "Looks like Miss Wetall's also coming out to help Ben celebrate his victory," JR joked as the young brunette trotted to ringside to hug the Moo Gi Gong master in a tight embrace. The duo continued to groove to the dance music, and was soon joined by Ben's large familiar Snorlax, whose "dancing" consisted mostly of holding his paws out at rhythmic intervals, shifting his weight with a broad grin. "Two upset victories to start off the most exciting Pokemania ever!" Tony exalted. "This is the first Pokemania *period*, Tony...." JR grumbled. The scene abruptly cut to the back stage area where Amanda and a cloak-less Ashura conversed. Ashura nodded and turned toward the camera as he began to walk. The redheaded teenager took the reins of her Ponyta and followed behind, while Shadow Pikachu scampered in front of the entourage. "Looks like this unlikely couple are making their final preparations for their tag match tonight," Joey observed. "And they are now *walking* to the arena floor!" Tony exclaimed dramatically. "Umm... yes, Tony, they are." "But will they be ready for the most experienced members of Team Revelation?" JR wondered aloud, just as the scene faded to black.
