What is Sonic Weekly?
Sonic (adj), according to the Oxford English Dictionary, means “denoting, relating to, or of the nature of sound or sound waves.” Weekly (adj), on the other hand, is defined as “done, produced, or occurring once a week.” Putting that together, in the most literal sense, implies that Sonic Weekly is a sound wave that is produced once every seven days.
Created by the incomparable Grant Pardee (a long time member of The Green Hill Zone community), the two goals of the podcast are right in the title. To produce an hour or so of audio entertainment for your ears, using sounds of all sorts. The “Sonic” in the title, is, however, not just a descriptor of the medium it’s presented in. It’s a double entendre, also used to reference the main subject matter of the show - Sonic the Hedgehog. A spiritual spin-off of the still-ongoing The GHZ Podcast, Sonic Weekly is chaperoned by Grant as he leads myself and the third host, fellow GHZ alum Bo, on our Sonic journey.
Most weeks, we have a guest (or two!) to discuss the world of Sonic both past and present, though conversation is not confined to the blue blur. Mario has been the subject of many an episode. And the one time we’ve gotten Pat Casey, writer extraordinaire of the Sonic the Hedgehog feature films, on? We talked about the original Mortal Kombat movie. Which, despite the lack of Sonic talk, was really fun!
The show continues to be made weekly, which means a podcast feed of some sort will be updated far more frequently than this particular page on the Internet. You can listen to us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or any podcatcher of your choice. We may not be the only Sonic podcast out there, but we are the only one with “Weekly” in the title.
