The original gang, Sonic's friends from South Island. They don't make appearances very often, although they're as old as Sonic and Robotnik. Aside from their debut in Sonic 1, they also star in many of the art from the Sonic Screensaver, and they even make a surprise appearance in Sonic Pocket Adventure. Flicky is the bluebird, Pocky is the rabbit, Pecky is the penguin, Ricky is the squirrel, Cucky is the chicken, Picky is the pig, and Rocky is the walrus. |

Allegedly, they used to be mechanics working for Robotnik, but escaped. They first appeared on Carnival Island with their claim, and began "helping" Knuckles and the Chaotix put a stop to Robotnik's designs on the Power Emerald. Both turned out to be pretty useless...Heavy is slow and, well, heavy; while Bomb is slow and blows himself up at the first sign of danger. Perhaps their intentions were good, but it's also possible that they were spies sent by Robotnik to slow Knux and the gang down. They have not been seen since, so the truth may never be known. |

A mysterious species of birds, Flickies are rarely seen due to the fact that they inhabit another dimension: the Flicky Dimension. They travel into this world primarily to search for food, and warp using Dimension Rings. Dimension Rings are only found on Flicky Island; however, Flickies have been seen in many places around the world. Flickies come in all colors, but the original blue Flicky starred in his own arcade and Genesis game even before Sonic. |

Chao are
mysterious liquid creatures who are reknowned for being very affectionate.
They live in harmony with humans, and Chao racing is a popular sport among
breeders. Chao will absorb the attributes of any animal they come in
contact with, and will slowly change shape based on their abilities. As
such, it is possible to raise a Chao that is fast, strong, a good swimmer,
able to fly, or any combination of the four. Chao raised with the speed
attribute will grow long "spines" just like Sonic's; they take on a
greenish hue. Chao trained to be strong take on a reddish hue and grow
upward "spines", making them look like small dragons. Swimming Chao turn
yellow and gain enlongated heads which curl at the end. Flying Chao take
on a purple hue and grow two long "horns", resembling a jester hat ala
NiGHTS.
The Chao life cycle consists of 2-5 stages, depending on how good a breeder you are. The first stage is the egg. Once hatched, the Chao is in its baby stage. It must absorb a certain amount of animals if it's to grow into the adult stage, which occurs after a brief pupation period in which the Chao is enveloped in a cocoon. During adulthood, the Chao is able to reproduce. When the adult Chao reaches old age, it will return to a cocoon. Depending on how well the Chao was treated by its trainer, it will either reincarnate, or die altogether. The final stage is only attained once a Chao has reincarnated numerous times: the seasoned Chao takes on the majestic appearance of Chaos. In this rare stage, it is known as a Light Chao. Although Chao are generally light blue, they also come in the rare colors of silver, gold, and black. While a standard blue Chao's color may change in its lifespan, the rare silver, gold, and black Chao retain their birth colors throughout their lives. |
