Sonic Jam, for it marked the great assent of the blue blur to an all new level. How many old games actually get sold like that? [An all new level? Don't you mean an all old level? Not like that's a bad thing...]

The Archie Comics issue entitled "Running to Stand Still". We've just suffered through Endgame, and what does Archie do? Give us... *a flourish of trunpets* a HUMAN SONIC! Well, not "human" - he's still a hedgehog - but being a little bit more than the one-dimensional character SEGA seems to want to cast him as. Actually admitting that he's got some unresolved issues and going to someone else (Rosie, namely) to work them out. And this somehow slipped past SEGA. I gotta tell you, this gives me great hope for the future of Archie... [That was probably my favorite issue of the year as well, but I still don't have much hope for Archie...they've disappointed me far more than they've pleased me this past year.]

I guess I would have to say, the comic books! Archie and Fleetway! Though I've never read the Fleetway ones before. -- J.N.

Definatley in Sonic's Archie Comic's #47 - 50. Awwwwwwwww MAN was that entertaining! It kept me on the edge of my seat for 4 months! And, Yes my friends, Robotnik's DEAD! Sonic's greatest appearance in 1997 was either Sonic Jam or Sonic R. Sonic Jam for it's awesome showing off of how good Sega once was. Sonic R for showing how good Sega still is. Sonic Jam had an incredible 3D level, Sonic R had incredible 3D levels. Sonic will one day be number one once again. (In my book he is!) And if I have to buy 9,00 copies of the next game to put Sonic in 1st, I'll do it! Cause I'm Sonic's #2 fan! Sonic 4 (Code name of new 3D platformer), Sonic R2, Sonic RPG, and (maybe!) Sonic Championchip!

Loads and loads of people are going to vote Tails, and so am I, so there.

Now this one's a toughie... hmm... I'm gonna have to put two down here, one for RPG's, one for... well... non-RPGs. A "sidekick" in an RPG works a lot differently from any other kind of sidekick. That said: Best RPG sidekick: Cait Sith. A character with a past at least as unknown as Cloud himself... and a sort of double agent for the Powers That Be at Shinra, Inc. I like how he goes from being the one who betrays the party to the one who ends up a) getting the Black Materia by sacrificing himself, b) stands up to Scarlet and Heidegger, and c) saves most of the population of Midgar by sending them underground when Meteor hits. Top that off with some completely hilarious moves in the heat of battle, (which would be just about everything... but I like him casting Choco/Mog [Cait Sith winds and... delivers!] and just sort of riding that huge stuffed toy to attack) the Dice and Slots Limit Breaks, and the general good cheer that comes with a robot cat riding a giant stuffed doll, and you've got a sidekick who could probably be a hero (albeit a wacky one) in his own right. Best Non-RPG sidekick: Tails. Was there ever any doubt? But not just ANY Tails... the Tails from Sonic 3 & Knuckles. The "airlift" maneuver sort of exemplifies what the hero/sidekick relationship should have been like. Having Tails along for the ride actually gives Sonic a few advantages he wouldn't have otherwise... like being able to fly. And Tails is a fully capable character in his own right, with powers and abilities which are different enough from Sonic's to make playing as Tails completely different from playing as Sonic. Mario and Luigi, take note. [Yes, yes, yes! When I made the question, I kept hoping someone would mention Cait Sith, but I didn't expect anyone to.]

I think Tails is! Sonic and Tails have always had a good realtionship, and they make a great team in the video games! Along with Knuckles, too. Of course.
