BLUE IS THE COLOUR Earth, the year 4009. A skinny man, wearing a lab coat, finally perfects the fuel for his Starflighter K 2000 space-jet, a machine capable-- he hopes-- of exceeding the speed of time, and air-capable enough to travel through space. If he can manage to get up to a high enough speed he can even hop dimensions, where he hopes to find exiting new minerals to make new substances and metals. He certainly is a man with many dreams. Finally, after pouring the green liquid into the Starflighter's fuel socket, he clambers into the cockpit and starts the engine up. Almost immediately blue light streams from the engine, and in a flash the machine is gone, but for a bright blue dot disappearing into the night sky. If an Earthman saw the dot, he would probably think it was a shooting star. He could not have been more wrong. Earth. The solar system. Zoom out... The galaxy. The universe. A flash as we skip dimensions, another as we travel forward a few years in time... Move camera to the left... A small planet. Zoom in... Continents. Countries. Zoom in... Lost cities... crumbling civilisations... populated hills... Zoom in... A hill. A small, brown creature, standing on its hind legs, standing in front of it, in the cool shade of an overhanging palm tree. Zoom in... Sonic the Hedgehog, world-champion athlete, stood peering round the tall but slim hill. Around it were three of his friends; Porker Lewis, an incompetent but good-hearted pig, Johnny Lightfoot, a fast and friendly rabbit (who Sonic had beaten in the Mobius Olympic Champions two times all ready), and Chirps... a small bird, which Sonic really wasn't that fond of. Sonic planned to burrow through this hill and come out the other side, hopefully giving the three playmates a fright. This was the hedgehog's usual, perhaps a little strange, sense of humor. This was later to develop into cases of life and death. Observe Sonic. He's a muddy brown, shabby, average-looking Mobian hedgehog, where animals have evolved to talk and stand on their hind legs, free of the harassment of humans. Sonic was famed throughout his planet for breaking all previous records of speed and stamina, and on his feet are two mud-crusted old, but worthy, worn trainers. His hands are covered with two, also worn, black, fingerless gloves. He has beige-coloured chest and arms, and has large, curious eyes-- while his eyebrows are often bent over them in a mischievous kind of way. All over the back of his body and the top and around his head, protude several hundered brown, less than sharp spikes. Sonic was discovered wandering in the Green Hill Zone many years ago by a wise owl name Sophicles, and ever since, no parent had claimed him to be their child. Sonic can't remember past then; it seems likely that hedgehog suffered a mild case of amnesia as a result of suspected child abuse. Sonic crouched, rolled his head and legs into a tight spiky ball, pushed off with his gloved hands, and burrowed a hole through the hill like a crazed brown buzzsaw, freshly-cut grass and soil spinning from his wake. That was when the hedgehog's fingers brushed against the edge of something. It felt terribly like nothing at all, and Sonic began to fall downwards. The hedgehog immediately thrust out with his limbs, unrolling from the tight ball he had been travelling in, and groped in the darkness with his fingers, stale air rushing through his many spikes. They found something; Sonic braced himself for the impact and gripped onto it. He waited until his stomach had accepted the fact that the rest of his small body weren't going anywhere anymore, and then felt around. There was what Sonic thought was a ladder, cold and metal. Sonic, sweating with both shock and panic, gripped onto it and began to climb upwards, back through the tunnel and into the hole Sonic supposed he had dug into. Then Sonic's explorational side got the better of him and he descended back down the ladder. It occoured to him that there was light below him. He dared a look. There was; rows of it. Frequently, a small bulb protuded from a large passageway, filling the cold area with light. Sonic neared the bottom of the ladder and jumped off it, and stood in the passage he had discovered. He carried onwards, and another ladder appeared in front of him; though less than half as large as the previous one. He looked up, and a few metres above him was a manhole cover. Sonic's first reaction was that the Metropolis City was above him, and though better of it. He'd only travelled a few metres underground; It was more probable that Porker Lewis and Co. were still playing cards on the surface of Green Hill Zone, not the sprawling, over-populated capital of Mobius. Sonic took a deep breath and climbed the ladder, then pushed at the manhole cover. It slid sideways with Sonic's push with a metallic chrrrr noise. Strong light poured into the dimmed passageway and the hedgehog clambered into... It looked like some sort of labatory. Engines, machinery and computers stood against the walls of the room, flashing red and yellow lights all over. Below the hedgehog were scattered scraps of paper, with scrawled writing over them. Diagrams or something, Sonic decided. Around him, machines hummed, causing a hollow buzz to fill his ever-pricked ears. All over the room were small devices, some taken apart or only half-built. Most of them were plugged into the side of one of the larger machines, or sitting on a table, buzzing and flashing. Sonic noticed a few passageways. One, he could see, led to a smaller room housing a bed, also strewn with small machinery, nuts and bolts. Another passageway led to a moderately-sized kitchen, in which a large refridgerator stood. Someone behind him exclaimed, "Ah, Edgingous Edclopiupous!" and placed a gloved hand on Sonic's shoulder. It felt warm but soft. The voice had sounded shrill and enthusiastic, and pronounced perfectly; something which to most people was almost impossible. The hand removed its grip and Sonic span around and glared into the face of a smiling man. He had a ridiculous red moustache, and tufts of red hair sprouting across his otherwise bald head. A small pair of glasses were perched perilously atop the end of a long, thin nose. A skinny man, the stranger wore a red, yellow-collared shirt and baggy, black trousers, under a white lab coat. In one hand was a test tube containing a blue, thick substance. In the other he held a bundle of papers. "Who are you?" Prompted Sonic. "And... what are... you?" The figure looked relived. "Ah. Yes. Of course. You would have never seen a human before, would you?" The guy leant forward to the dazed hedgehog, a shiny-toothed grin spreading accross his clean face. "You have now," he smiled. "My name is Doctor Ovi Kintobor, my friend." "A hunam." said Sonic, turning the strange word over in his head. "And what was it that you called me? Ealier?" "Edgingous Edclopiupous," replied the doctor. "The bionic--" he paused when he saw the even more confused look on the hedgehog's face-- "er, scientific... word for hedgehog." "Oh, that's... that's ok then. 'Cos I'm a hedgehog, you know." "Yes, and a jolly fast one too, I might add-- Sonic-- It is Sonic, isn't it? Sonic the Hedgehog?" "Erm. Yeah. That's me." "Fastest thing alive on Mobius?" "Well, nobody has beaten me, no. Not yet," Sonic added with a hint of pride. Kintobor appeared to think about this. "You wouldn't.... you wouldn't mind, would you, dear chap? I I ran some tests, would you?" Sonic considered this. He'd never been called a dear chap before. It seemed to be an affirmitive sort of nickname. The hedgehog nodded, and the doctor smiled again. It was three months later. The two had become friends, and Doctor Kintobor had built a huge, hedgehog-sized treadmill to monitor Sonic's highest speeds, and analysed the results, experimenting with numbers and calculators until, finally, the doctor produced a pair of 'super' sneakers. These high-quality friction-reducing running shoes gave Sonic better grip on surfaces and prevented his feet from becoming overheated as a result of the tremendous standards that were demanded of them. They were made of a strong but comfortable material and secured to the foot with one white strap. The footwear greatly increased Sonic's speed, and, one day, the hedgehog exceeded the speed of sound by thirty-six mph. Upon breaking the barrier, there was a tremendous explosion, that seemed to flow from Sonic's body, with a huge roar that could only be that of a sonic boom. After the shockwaves had died down, the hedgehog was still running. He had found he had the inability to stop, and it took Kintobor three hours and sixteen minutes to slow the treadmill down. To stop it dead, as the doctor explained, would have probably sent the hedgehog reeling into orbit. Sonic, as curling smoke reeled from the shattered remains of forgotten inventions and experiments, stepped out of the treadmill. He was different. He was indigo blue, for a start. His numerous brown and unsharp spikes had merged into one another, bending back into a stiff, stremlined blue mohawk, as five new spikes streamed down Sonic's back. He was the New Sonic. Even Kintobor was midly taken aback. "Chill, doc," said Sonic calmly, "I'm Sonic the Hedgehog." "So you are. Uh. Are you all right?" stuttered the doctor. "Never felt better in my life." Sonic looked down a the remains of his black fingerless gloves. They were in scraps across his hands. "Hmm, need new gloves," commented Sonic, "how about white to go with my, how shall I say... new look, doc?" He didn't wait for an answer. "I'm hungry... seeya, dude," Sonic waved and lowered himself down the manhole cover. And with that, what was probably Mobius' most incredible experiment yet, went out to lunch. LIKE EGGS IS EGGS Over the months Kintobor went on to explain his plan of action to Sonic. He had all ready acknowledged that Mobius was a cool place to live, unspoilt from the dire actions of humans, and wanted to rid the planet completely of all chaos and evil, so that Sonic and all Mobius' inhabinants may live in abasolute tranquility. To do this he constructed the Retro Orbital Chaos Compressor-- ROCC for short-- which could and, he hoped, would absorb the chaos he collected. Meanwhile, the doctor stored the rather nasty concoction of chaos and evil in six emeralds; the Chaos Emeralds. These spent their puporseful lives connected into the ROCC, while the machine gradually sucked their contents into itself, away from all Mobians. Though there was one small snag, and that was the overwhelming energy flowing from the awesome emeralds was enough to romove half of Green Hill instantly and then on to destroy the rest of the planet within the week, transforming it into a evil-overthrown, giant Mad Zone, let alone a small machine. Kintobor tackled this problem with the aid of his home-made Gold Rings; these continaully flowed good feelings around the machine, stopping it from detonating. However their powers were limited, and he estimated they could only hold out for another three years, well within the time he expected the chaos to be fully absorbed into the ROCC. At least a year before completion of absorment, the Rings would give out and the ROCC would explode. There was only one thing Kintobor knew could fully neutralise the emeralds: The Grey Emerald. But it was yet to be located. Kintobor placed numerous computers around Mobius, where passing folk could input any information they may have leading to the location of the Grey Emerald. Later on in the year, Kintobor stood at the ROCC's controls, and Sonic sitting in a torn but comfy armchair reading his current fave read, Attack of the Killer Penguins #93, with a huge pizza with extra cheese and an extra-large cola by his side. But something was horribly, horribly wrong. Sonic took a slice and chewed vigerously. "Eauurgh! That pizza has got something horribly, horribly wrong with it. Maybe some chilli sauce would help..." Sonic's weird and wacky taste-buds savoured at the thought. Sonic confronted the lab's refrigerator. Upon opening it, nothing was inside, but a small boiled egg. Sniffing, Sonic's trained nose concluded that it was undoubtably waaay past its best-before date. The hedgehog produced this wonderful specimen of nature to Kintobor, who said, "Oh, with a little salt and my Biocarbonate dia 9.06 part Carbonate Ex, it should be all right..." The doctor held the egg in his right hand, and typed commands into the ROCC. What happened next, no-one knew. Perhaps the egg distracted Kintobor and he absent-mindedly typed the wrong commands into the machine, or if he had planned the whole incident as an experiment. Perhaps the ROCC just couldn't take the strain of the emeralds anymore. But something happened. The was a mighty explosion as the ROCC exploded, sending millions of golden rings hurtling. Sonic watched them break through the ceiling, through the earth above it and out into the open air, trailing golden anti-chaos energy. Then he looked at Kintobor. Streams of chaos were blasting out of each emerald, all lying scattered around the lab. They hit machines and inventions, and they promptly exploded. Kintobor was still holding the rotten egg in his right hand. Sonic watched with horror as the protective force field the rings had created around the ROCC extended to swallow the doctor, and a beam of glistening colours hit his forehead-- chaos energy. The hedgehog dived back into lab, and shielded himself from looking. The doctor was swelling up. Swelling up, into a horrbile, gigantic egg, just like the one he held in his right hand. The chaos was shaping the doctor out of the physical charecterisitcs of the egg. As the clothes stretched as they strained to contain this bulbous egg of a human, buttons popped and were sent whizzing across the lab. Still he was growing. The apparently random tufts of red hair sprouting in various spots across Kintobor's head began to shrink and wrivel, and at last the doctor was completely bald. His mustache began to extend and grow, redder than ever, matching his lab jacket. Black trousers stretched tightly over two thin, spindly legs and somehow weilded themselves to the doctor's black shoes. There was another explosion, and a noise like the tearing of reality. The doctor was sent flying backwards into another buzzing machine. It hummed loudly, as if warning, of a high chaos energy level. Slowly Dr. Kintobor stood up. Sonic stared. It was horrible. The smell of rotten eggs filled the air. It was somehow Kintobor's exact phsyical opposite; ugly, fat, bulbous, short... even his name had been reversed, as Sonic saw from the name tag still pinned to the doctor's jacket. It said: Dr. ivO robotniK. "Uh... you all right, doc?" stuttered the hedgehog. The new Kintobor, Ivo Robotnik, leaned over to Sonic's nose and jeered, "All right? All right! I fell EGG-CELLENT!... ha ha ha ha!" Sonic gave him a puzzled look, hoping rather doubtfully that this was some joke of a sort. But Dr. Kintobor never made jokes... or at least good ones, anyway. Suddenly Robotnik yelled, to the world in general, "I will rule Mobius! I'll incase all your--" he pointed an accusing digit at Sonic-- "fluffy, eggs-asperating friends in metal! As my loyal, beautiful... badniks! ha ha ha ha!" he roared. "The emeralds! It's all in the emeralds! I'll launch them into space... ha ha ha ha! Now I am as evil and chaotic as them!" Robotnik paused for a moment to recap on what he'd just said, and suddenly realised he'd put his mouth into gear before anything else. Now that "eggs-asperating" hedgehog knew all about his wonderful master plan. "Come here so I can encase you in metal and turn you into a robotic pin cushion!" But the hedgehog had already gone, pounding his super running shoes on the floor, propelling him away from the crazed Robotnik as fast as possible. Cursing the speed Robotnik had helped Sonic to acquire, Robotnik cackled again, probably against his will. Then he grabbed the emeralds and sped away, as fast-- which was very slow-- as his spindly legs could carry his bulbous body. END. THE SPECIAL ZONE The Special Zone is Mobius' equivalent of our Solar System. It is also one of the strangest sections of their universe, though unknown to Mobius' naive residents. The Special Zone, also known as "The Warps of Confusion", lives up to its name. It is indeed very confusing. Energy, light, and focused magic curl around each other in this weird place, to create a truly astonoshing, and otherwise physically impossible, things. The Special Zone is also where Robotnik originally launched the Chaos Emeralds, sure that not even Sonic the Hedgehog would be able to navigate its incredbile, ever-changing layout. He didn't know him very well. The Special Zone is also where Robotnik set up his original base of operations, the floating sattelite station Egg Fortress. There he went on to construct the ultimate of weapons... his Death Egg. You can learn more of this later. The Special Zone is guarded by the infamous Chaotix Crew. THE CHAOS EMERALDS MANY YEARS AGO.... Approximately nine thousand years ago, when the Floating Island was still largely populated by a civilisation of echidnas. This civilisation originally was the base of Knuckles' own family. The Floating Island, as you will learn in depth more about, and its origin, was originally a huge section of Mobius, interconnecting various zones together instead of the huge in-land sea now in its place, as well as housing many of its own. The rulers of the island, at that time continent, were threatened by a rival zone. Unprepared for this, the island was almost certainly doomed. However, a top-notch echidna scientist, Dr. Zachary, had been working on eight truly fantastic, huge emeralds. These emeralds were formed entirely of solid energy. In his labratory, Zachary had also formed an energy conventer, a light beam shone from a large bulb below. Upon placing the emeralds in this beam their energy was instantly converted to a whole underground networking, and the entire continent was able to soar to the sky, away from its many enemies. However, there was a problem. The emeralds proved to powerful to handle and the island took an overload in energy! To stop the island soaring into space and literally burning up, killing all inhabinants, Dr. Zachary split the emeralds in two and disposed of eight of the now sixteen emeralds, the only way he could think of without releasing so much energy the island would start spinning: He threw them over the edge. As these incredible items hurtled to their destiny, they gathered so much momentum that some of them literally flew through several miles of Mobian soil and water before finally coming to a screeching halt. There they lay for thousands of years. When Kintobor arrived on the scene he read up on books, hungry to learn of Mobius' winding history. There he learned of the fabled Emeralds. Dr. Kintobor calculated that all of the energy inside the eight Emeralds would have long ago drained away. The incredible energy-storing powers of these things would, he realised, make excellent storage for all the planet's evil. There and then, he set about ridding the world, bit by bit. When Robotnik was created he made a grab for the eight known Chaos Emeralds every time he could, knowing that with them he could achieve world domination. Then Robotnik's original Death Egg-- powered merely by huge energy jet boosters-- crashed on the Floating Island. Unbelievably, the island's eight own Chaos Emeralds were still intact and still giving power to the ancient island. Two of these emeralds were different from any of Mobius', in a big way. One was the Master Emerald, the main channeler for the emerald's chaotic power. The power potential of this emerald alone could send the whole of Mobius out of orbit upon given the same system, enlarged enough, as the Floating Island's. Dr. Robotnik of course wanted this particular emerald like no other. With it he could generate the obscene power requirements of his original dream Death Egg-- much more powerful, advanced in structure design (ie. Egg shaped), and more controller-friendly than the original seen in Sonic 2. The other was the Grey Emerald, the Chaos Emerald Kintobor eagerly searched for to stabalise his experiment (you see, this is why he didn't find it on Mobius). This emerald had the power to fully control each and every other emerald, and was the main "remote control" for the Island's original orbit over Mobius. Knuckles today continues to kep this emerald away from Robotnik in as much a way he can. CHARACTERS SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Spieces: Hedgehog Age: 15 Strengths: Incredible speed (can exceed mach 1), witty humour and cool attitude Weaknesses: He can't swim (not that matters much-- he can run on water)! Falls apart when something or someone very special to him is lost. Tends to dive straight into things without thinking first Likes: Junk food, friends, hanging out, loud fast music, moving fast Dislikes: Robotnik, Knuckles, tears, lonliness, Badniks, water, lack of action, standing still, and puzzles! Distinctive features: Blue skin, supersonic speed, incredible agility Sonic the hedgehog was found, fourteen years ago, wandering the grassy mounds of the Green Hill Zone. An owl named Sophicles located him and brought him back to the zone's local residents who, after many appeals to find his parents, adopted him. Sonic today claims he cannot remember past that time, and many of his friends suspect that as a victim of child abuse Sonic may have experienced a mild case of amnesia. Sonic befriended the zone's inhabitants and a few of them helped raise the orphan; teaching him which berries tasted good and which made you ill, how to eat candy, and, er, manners; and as a result the hedgehog developed a certain confident attitude and heroism, and for some reason an overwhelming belief that he was the coolest and fastest thing alive. Which is probably true, but no-one likes a bragger. Over the years Sonic also constructed a record-breaking on-foot land speed, which he proudly boasted in years to come. When he was thirteen the hedgehog broke the sound barrier, oddly turning him a shade of indigo blue and somehow merging his spikes together into five. About five months after Kintobor had mutated himself, Sonic developed his own attack: the Sonic Spin. Jumping high and then curling into a tight, spiky and all-round razor-sharp whirling blue ball of fury, at last this was his time to try it out against a villian; or at least his cronies. Sonic's pudgy friend Porker Lewis strangely went missing, and after a day or so, a horde of robotic metal giant wasps appeared, extending metallic claws and grabbing various animals. Any who resisted were shot at with ballistic energy bolts, fired from the tip of the robots' tails. Before their captives could be carried away into the distance from whence the metallic creatures came, Sonic was there-- smashing the robots open with his Sonic Spin attack. To his suprise, a gibbering Porker fell from the small explosion that Sonic had triggered. He had been trapped inside! Lewis then went on to explain that this "Borotnik, or some person" guy had gone demented, and planned to rule their planet by encasing all its inhabinants in metal, using them as bionic batteries for the robots he built. And that was when our fave hog of much hedgeness realised Mobius was in dire need of hero, and he fitted the discription perfectly. Sonic still remains as cool as he ever was, if not more. He's always looking for adventure and his arch nemesis, Dr. Robotnik, will no doubt give it to him. If there's an adventure to be led, Sonic's there already, and his friend Tails is never far behind. GOOD FOOD! Nobody could say Sonic the Hedgehog's diet consisted of only healthy foods, or at least truthfully. What it did mainly include are listed: Tortilla chips, nachos, chips, fries, hot dogs, burgers, cheeseburgers, chicken burgers, chilli dogs, pizza, crisps, anything chocolate and cola by the gallon. However, these items are essential to fueling his much-loved speed, and the fact that he finds all of these snacks delicous is merely coincedental (or so he says..). POWER UP! "The Power Rings, upon the ROCC detonating, were stewn all over mobius, into its moons and the surrounding hyper-space. These rings are full of anti-chaos energy. Someone touching one would trigger the ring to almost dissolve, though the energy would immediately be transferred into that somebody. If, by any chance, that somebody would go on to get hurt in some way... no pain or damage would be inflicted on them. However the ring would re-materialise into thin air, and from that point the someone would be 'normal' once more. However, the ring would again be there for the taking, Sonic. I advise you to grab as many of them as possible."-- The Kintobor Computer. Rings are genetically coded so that they will only try and activate with a live being. Most of a power ring is a storage for energy. The surface is a micro textured with thousands of little nano-sensors that scan any matter that comes near them. If the genetic pattern resembles that of a live being they release the energy. Of course Sonic wears gloves all the time but the scanners in the nano-computers may be able to scan a few millimeters in any direction. A ring contains a large charge of some sort. The energy could be converted when it is absorbed by Sonic's body. There are a number of ways the charge could be stored. The first one involves lining the inside of the ring with a superconductive material. A charge could be put in and stored. The inside contains chemicals that when reacted would produce a very high output. When Sonic has used a power ring it disappears and dissolves into energy. Therefore it must have only been made of energy in the first place. The power ring uses its own energy to pull itself together. When the forces keeping it together can not longer contain the energy it disappears. Therefore a delicate balance must be struck. The outside of it is composed of a very thin but strong layer of particles. This means that holding onto it is no problem. When it runs out of energy the particles float away. When Sonic touches the ring the sensors open up a channel to allow his body to receive the flow of energy. This energy decreases and closes Sonic's wide span of harm possibilities; in other words, it makes it impossible for anything to harm Sonic. However, once Sonic does encounter an otherwise harmful experience, the rings re-solve their energy coating and nano-sensors and leave Sonic's body, along with the protective anti-chaos energy that they are made up of. They are now availble, once more, to anyone who touches them. SUPERSONIC THE HEDGEHOG Species: Hedgehog, effected by chaos energy Strengths: The most powerful being on Mobius! Can fire lasers from eyes, fly at light speeds, destroys anything he touches Weaknesses: Has a determination to destroy anything in sight, including what would otherwise be his friends. Loses his lack of cool and is impossible to stop Likes: Destruction, pain, death, chaos Dislikes: Everything else, especially his alter self, Sonic Distinctive features: Is bright yellow, sparks are constantly streaming from his wake, spikes are pointing wrong way and are bent Sonic the hedgehog, as well as his ex-friend Kintobor, has encountered the effects of chaotic power. In the events of Sonic the Hedgehog our hero rescued all six Chaos Emeralds from the warps of confusion orbiting Mobius, the Special Zone, and didn't really know what to do with them. After continued handling with these unstable chaotic items, the hedgehog experienced side effects upon becoming stressed, which totally reversed his normally cool self into a glowing yellow, hypersonic maniac capable of travelling faster than light itself. In this form Sonic was invincible, he could fly and had a twisted determintation of destroying everything within his radius. He also had a personal hatred of his original self, the blue Sonic within, and would stop himslef reverting back if at all possible. This "evil side" came to be known as Super Sonic. However, when becoming Super Sonic the effect was only temporary. To fuel the power, Super Sonic collected the anti-chaos Gold Rings. Quite why these didn't revert him totally, but infact boosted the time period of this transformation, is yet to be known. MILES PROWER THE FOX Species: Fox Age: 8 Strengths: Piloting aircraft and vehicles. Can fly using his two tails like helicopter blades, can also use his tails to swim and run very well. Can airlift Sonic using his tails for short periods of time Weaknesses: Can't fly for long-- gets tired shortly Likes: Aeroplanes, flying, machine maintenance, mint candy, jammin' on his guitar and Sonic Dislikes: Thunder and lightning, Robotnik and his Badniks Distinctive features: Born with two tails, and can fly! Robotnik had had one crack, so far, at conquering Mobius, and Sonic the Hedgehog had stopped him. The crazed scientist had had planned to capture the animals of Mobius and encase them in metal, using them as "organic batteries" to power his loyal and lethal robots. The triumphant hedgehog returned from the destroyed ramains of the scientist's temporary set-up base, the Scrap Brain Zone, to his home, the Green Hill. The news that Robotnik had been defeated made the hedgehog a world-wide hero, and Robotnik recieved the same reputation as Earth's Adolf Hitler. The whole planet could not help but hear about the famous, ice-cool hedgehog. Some people became humongous fans. One of those people was Miles Prower, a young eight-year-old fox, with two tails. Miles had been born with them, and as a result his parents classified him as a 'freak of nature' and left him to be, unwanted. No-one knows were those two foxes are now, and Miles can not remember them at all. Miles Prower set off to find Sonic the Hedgehog-- his hero and idol for life. He had heard that lived in the Hill zones. By a stroke of incredible luck, he found him zooming across the Emerald Hill zone itself. Sonic found Miles' two tails incredible, and bonded an immediate friendship. Now the two are best friends. Because of this relationship, Sonic found himself nicknaming the fox 'Tails'. 'Tails' didn't seem to mind this, and prefers it to Miles Prower. One day an incredible thing happened. Tails was climbing a palm tree in the Emerald Hill zone, when the trunk snapped and he began to fall. Sonic came running to Tails, intending to catch him, but he didn't need to. As the fox fell, his twin tails whirred into action and began spinning like a furry pair of rotor blades! This fox could fly! TASTE, BUD! Tails has devoloped a diet quite different to his friend's, being more healthy. He enjoys milk and fruit juices to soft drinks, and sandwiches to burgers. However the young fox still has a passion for chocolate, chilli dogs and candy; he's also very partial to the odd chicken bucket! CHILLING OUT! When Tails isn't desperately putting on that extra burst of speed to try and catch up with his supersonic friend, biffing a badnik or going exploring with Sonic, there's nothing he likes better than to just chill out with a cool drink and a few snacks. Tails also loves to compose raging electric guitar solos, but scarcely sings-- he has too high a voice at the tender age of eight. Tails loves to swim, and like Sonic, doesn't like to be alone. He's always with friends and having a good time. KNUCKLES THE ECHIDNA Species: Echidna (spiny anteater, relative to the hedgehog). Age: 16 Strengths: Can dig tunnels and climb cliffs using his barbed gloves. Can glide through the air. Knows many secret tunnels throughout the Floating Island Weaknesses: Is very naive and can be tricked easily. This is because Knuckles has lived alone, without civilisation, ever since he was born Likes: Fruit (especially grapes). His home, the Floating Island Dislikes: Sonic, Robotnik, Badniks, man-made objects and meat Distinctive featurs: Is a sharp red colour, has spiked gloves Knuckles was born a year before the Floating Island's residents, a race of civilised echidnas, left the island to travel to the Special Zone, where it is thought they planned to conduct incredible acts of magic like no other zone knows of. Knuckles was left a message, saying that one day they would return... no-one knows when they will, or if at all. Knuckles is a year older than Sonic in age. He has been brought up on instinct, as he was left alone on the island at the age of one. Knuckles knows all the Floating Island's secrets and was chosen at birth to be the guardian of the island's Chaos Emeralds. No-one, Knuckles realises, must have them but he-- without the six emeralds the island would plunge to its eventual doom. That includes Robotnik, and the aforesaid evil but gifted professor is number one on his enemies list. TRICKED! When Robotnik first discovered Knuckles and learned of the Master Emerald, he used lies against the naive echidna. Robotnik told him that Sonic the Hedgehog was evil and had stolen Robotnik's own Emeralds. For a while Knuckles was fooled but realised the truth when Ivo stole the island's Emeralds from him. Since then Knuckles has always disliked Sonic even though he knew that he was the good guy... for, after all, the two are almost rivals. AMY ROSE THE HEDGEHOG Species: Hedgehog Age: 13 Strengths: Talented in the art of fortune telling, a hot shot with a crossbow Weaknesses: Can become very scared in times of great danger Likes: Sonic the Hedgehog (she has a major crush on him!), Tails (she thinks he's cute), fortune-telling and chocolate Dislikes: Metallix the Metal Sonic (ever since he first captured her as bait for Sonic) Distinctive features: Has her spikes tied back in a plume, wears a green dress and trainers Amy Rose was lucky enough to live in the Emerald Hill Zone so, amongst others, often met the famous blue one. Ever since her first encounter with him, Amy's bedroom walls have been lined with posters. She makes it clear to everyone, especially Sonic, that she really likes him! Amy often causes grief to Sonic. He doesn't particually like the girl, and winces whenever she broadcasts to the world in general that she is his girlfriend. Not only that but more than once she has been captured and used as bait to lure Sonic into what Robotnik has hoped was his final demise. Amy, as it states in her profile above, is also pretty mean with a crossbow. She has a few times smashed a badnik or two with her own, but mostly ends up captured by more robots, often lead by Metallix, the Metal Sonic. Amy's uncle, who was last seen three years ago in the grasp of Robotnik's badniks, once made her a small pink car, with a mind of its own. Sometimes Amy rides it, though it is nowhere near as fast enough to keep up with Sonic. Some smart features that Tails added to the car allow the vehicle to travel across water-- by making the wheels rotate on their axis, and a small propeller popping out of the back! It also has a rarely-used Turbo Boost, which allows the car to fire a small rocket and be shot forward for limited periods of time. METALLIX THE METAL SONIC Species: Badnik design based on Sonic the Hedgehog Age: 3 Strengths: Can travel (using his Power Booster) almost as fast as Sonic, can generate unstable energy around his body (frying anything coming into contact with it), can rip steel like butter using metal spike fingers Weaknesses: ??? Likes: ??? Dislikes: ??? Distinctive features: The first fully capable robot to be created by an Earth creature The Metal Sonic design was originally used by Robotnik to be the unbeatable guardian of the Death Egg. However it was severely trashed by one determined Super Sonic, who, literally, smashed it to pieces. However Robotnik, never one to give up, kept on going with the idea, it being one of his favourites. He created Metal Sonic Mark 2: Metallix. This version was the first and only capable of travelling in time (and also a lot tougher to beat than Mark 1), but Robotnik decided to leave the feature out of Mark 3 because he often experienced an uncomfortable feeling that Metallix was trying to kill his granparents in the past. When even Mark 2 was defeated by the unstoppable blue one, Robotnik went the whole (hedge?)hog with Mark 3. He built it at the time of the Death Egg's rebuilding, and made it stronger, with the capabilites to absorb a limited amount of power from the Master Emerald. He gained this idea upon seeing the frightening effects the Chaos Emeralds had on Sonic the Hedgehog. Of course, when Metallix Mark 3 did absorb the power, it was almost unstoppable, but for the way the effects soon wore off. Sonic soon realised that he was not the only guy around here who could get a buzz of the incredible Emerald and transformed into Super Sonic for the third time, scrapping a Metallix for the second. Most Mobius inhabinants hope that Robotnik has finally learnt his lesson about these robots-- but some say that he still has one prototype left... DR IVO ROBOTNIK/ OVI KINTOBOR Species: Human, effected by chaos energy Age: ? Strengths: Has an IQ of 390. Never gives up! Weaknesses: Acts like a child despite his IQ, loses his temper quickly, requires machines to travel efficiently Likes: Eggs, world domination, crazed megalomania Dislikes: Sonic! Distinctive features: Large robust body, barely visible mouth, outragous mustache Ovi Kintobor was a bright lad who lived somewhere in England, in the year 2003. Young Ovi passed all his tests with high marks, and broke English records with incredible achievements in math and science. His first invention might link to his present mental characteristic, as it was a spray designed to reverse the affects of food ageing. It, as he discovered, worked suprisingly well with rotten eggs. At the age of 19 Ovi graduated from university with extremely high marks, and later went on to study bionics, chemicals and the time/space paradoxes. He also worked heavily with large machinery and computers. Finally, at the age of forty-three, Ovi Kintobor constructed a small one-seater shuttle, which he planned to visit space with, perhaps conducting experiments with the new minerals and resources he hoped to find there. He launched the shuttle, and due to unfairly bad luck, was swallowed by a black hole. This warped him to a parralel dimension and he went on to explore this new area of space. He was passing Mobius, a planet not unlike most others, when his engines gave out and he was forced to land on the planet. There, (due to a very unpleasant accident) he went on to transform into the evil Dr. Robotnik-- hell bent on destroying Sonic the Hedgehog and his playful chums, global domination and overall worldwide unpleasantness. Robotnik is infamous for the way he fuels his army of robots, his "Badniks"-- with animals! Each little creature is imprisoned in a casing of metal and used to genetically fuel the robot, as organic batteries. Links to the brain and optical structure networking enable the robot to suck life slowly from the animal, slowing down its age development in the process but fueling the Badnik much more efficiently. To be powered on mobile power sources or a liquid fuel, Robotnik realised, would be a horribly eggs-asperating experience. The robots actually demanded massive power recquirements in order for them to generate energy weapons, or to even move well at all. Why not give "life" to a robot? As each battle progressed, Robotnik became more and more determined to destroy Sonic and his friends. With each new day his twisted but limitless imagination creates yet more obsticals and death traps for his ultimate nemesis, Sonic the Hedgehog. Large springs, spikes, spiked balls on chains, wall-planted missile launchers and flame throwers, crushing walls and ceilings are only some of the numerous obsticals Sonic has to daily navigate. Some day one of the two will perish-- it is clear that neither shall ever give up. We can only hope that some day Robotnik's evil grasp over Mobius shall end, and our triumphant and galliant hedgehog hero shall hold his victory high. THE DEATH EGG Robotnik's ultimate weapon, the Death Egg. Originally seen and destroyed in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, this ship has the damage potential to destroy planets in days. Robotnik built what he thought of as the indestructible Metal Sonic, named Metallix, to guard the Death Egg. He also constructed an escape vehicle, the Mecha-Egg, which are both described in this section. When Robotnik first built and launched the Death Egg, Sonic arrived on his ship with the help of Tails and mashed Metallix. Robotnik had no choice but to battle the hedgehog in his Mecha-Egg, before he was badly damaged in battle and retreated the doomed Death Egg. On its way down to Earth, Robotnik watched his ship fall to what he assumed be Mobius. It wasn't. By pure concidence, the Death Egg crash-landed on the fabled Floating Island. Knuckles, an echidna and guardian of the Floating Island's own Chaos Emeralds, was discovered by Robotnik whilst exploring the island with his Mecha-Egg. After talking, Dr. Robotnik discovered that Knuckles was the guardian of the Floating Island's own Chaos Emeralds. He told the echidna that his own Chaos Emeralds were stolen by a feared criminal mastermind on Mobius, Sonic the Hedgehog and his evil friend Tails. Determined not to let this happen to himself the naive Knuckles turned against Sonic and Tails, whilst Dr. Robotnik proceeded to reconstruct his beloved Death Egg, using the island's Master Chaos Emeralds to supply never-ending and incredible power. Realising that he now had the massive energy requirement needed, Robotnik decided to rebuild his ship with a pair of Chaos Energy Concentrator Rays. The idea of these incredible weapons had always been a favourite of the evil doctor but he knew he would never have the energy means to power them. That is, up until know... THE EGG-O-MATIC Robotnik's original design for a primary way of travel, the Egg-O-Matic has remained a firm favourite with the scientist ever since his change. The Egg-O-Matic is constructed of a small, black, hollow half-oval. At the rear of the oval is the machine's engine-- a mediumly sized Robotron 100, constructed by Robotnik himself. It is constantly removed, tinkered with and then put back again, the results of such doings varying between the better or worse performance of the engine. At the front end of the oval is a rounded seat, and at the very front are two control readouts and steering wheel, as well as the craft's fuel readouts, intercommunicational functions and weapons selection. However, to leave the Egg-O-Matic like this would render it increasingly vunerable to damage. Robotnik covered the top half of his vehicle with an armour of his own creation. Sprouting from the sides of this armour are two tubby wings; these help stabalise the machine's flight. And finally, from the rear of the Egg-O-Matic protudes a large rocket thruster, directly linked to the main engine. This propelles the vehicle in flight. Of course, no Robotnik-made vehicle would be complete without a few weapons. It can fire small bombs to throw Sonic and his friends about, homing missiles which lock on on Sonic, and arm itself with retracting spikes. THE MECHA EGG Primarily Robotnik's escape vehicle, the Mecha-Egg was constructed using Robotnik himself as inspiration. The ME (Mecha Egg) has robotic limbs and Robotnik pilots the huge machine from his cockpit inside the head. The ME is powered in flight by three huge turbo-thrusters on the back of the robot's torso. Also located under the feet are two mini-thrusters on each. Hands are spiked, for particularly painful hedgehog-punching, and have lasers on each finger tip. Armour on the Mecha-Egg is lightweight but strong, and also has interconnectional qualaties allowing the ME to hook up to the Master Emerald and use it to fire a destructive mini Death Ray. VECTOR THE CROCODILE Species: Crocodile Age: 18 Strengths: Can run very fast, and is extremely athletic and fit Weaknesses: Can become distracted when too busy jammin' on his personal stereo! Likes: Pop music, dancing to it Dislikes: Robotnik, classical music Distinctive features: You know when he's around for the constant buzz of his stereo! Vector is the leader of the Chaotix crew, who are the guardians of the Special Zone. Along with Mighty, Espio and Charmee, he proves invaluable to the crew and though they probably wouldn't admit it, they'd all be inside Robotnik's badniks by now if he wasn't on the scene. Vector often gets on the crew's nerves with his personal stereo, which is always on at full blast. Vector likes sing along as well-- the crew have strong feelings about some of his singing! Original creator of the Link Rings, a pair of Mobian Gold Rings connected with an elastic-like link of anti-chaos energy. This link can never be broken and the Rings are nuetralised to the effect that they no longer absorb into the holder when held. The crew often use his invention in their battle against invaders to the Special Zone, like Robotnik. ESPIO THE CHAMELEON Species: Chameleon Age: 17 Strengths: Can become virtually invisible by blending into the backround using his skin to camoflauge himself, and can run up walls and on ceilings Weaknesses: Short temper and a big mouth, will drop everything if insulted Likes: Showing off to the crew with his Spinning Top Attack Dislikes: Charmee, Dr. Robotnik, Mighty Distinctive features: Never the same shade of colour he was a few seconds ago! Though Espio is easily offended, he can become very aggresive towards anyone he even midly dislikes-- especially Dr. Robotnik, who once imprisoned him in a badnik before he became a member of Chaotix. As it says in his CV, Espio can both blend into backrounds and walk upside-down and on walls. The former is very useful, because it allows him to attack most badniks without their feeble optical sensors detecting him. Espio loves to use his Spinning Top Attack to blast through badniks at great speeds, though it is not as powerful as Sonic's Sonic Spin Attack, or Tails' Spin Dash. MIGHTY THE ARMADILLO Species: Armadillo Age: 17 Strengths: The strongest live creature in Mobius' galaxy, and can punch harder than Knuckles (!) Weaknesses: Like Espio he has a short which temper often results in fights Likes: Health, working out Dislikes: Espio, Dr. Robotnik Distinctive features: Black skin, small pointed nose, natural red armour on back and head
