In Knothole, Sir Charles Hedgehog and Rotor Walrus were working on a derobotizizor, asking Sonic the Hedgehog every now and then to go to the ruins of Robotropolis to find a bit of this or that. Delphine Kiminsu, Princess Sally Acorn, and Bunnie Rabbot were hanging around, talking about one thing or another, Miles Tails Prower and Dulcy were working on their flying skills, and Comet and Dimitria were working on their telepathy skills. On the Floating Island, Knuckles the Echidna was resting under a tree, daydreaming about Delphine, among other things. The Chaotix were hanging out at the local arcade, with Vector winning most of the time. (did you doubt it?) Well, almost all was peaceful. Underground the ruins of Robotropolis, Snively and Metal Knuckles were hatching a plan. "First off," Snively had said, "we need to change your name. It sounds so.... so...." "Robotnik?" "Yes, that's it. Now, let's see...." Snively thought a moment. "Ah! I know! We'll name you Brass." "I like it." "You better. Now, we need to find out if....hah! Yes. Just as I thought. At the moment, our guest is looking for this dimensions' coordinates. After he finds them, he will search for this planets' coordinates. When he finds that, he will be able to enter the coordinates into this machine that he will use, and then he will create s portal, enter it, and come here. The problem is, the only area stable enough is in the Caves of Eternal Death." "I really don't like that name," Brass/Metal Knuckles interrupted. "Neither do I." Snively agreed. "It was given by an ancient ancestor of one of the current guardians. He named it that because three people he knew went through that portal and never came back, so he assumed them dead." Snively shrugged. "Or so the legends say." He turned towards the computer, which was how he was keeping track of his friend. "Soon, he will be able to come here. And then I will be able to go back to his planet, with his accompaniment. And then, I will acquire the most powerful thing known." "Even more powerful than the Chaos Emerald?" Brass asked. Snively shook his head. "You know just as well as I do that the Chaos Emeralds are the most powerful force there is." "But you said...." "I know. And it is true." "This is too confusing." Brass said, shaking his head. "Let me explain. The Chaos Emerald is, first of all, the most protected thing I have ever seen. That stupid echidna values it over his own life. But this, this is not guarded at all. It's just hidden away somewhere. It gives its holder unlimited power. I realize that the Chaos Emerald also does this, but the Emerald wears off after awhile. If someone who had this power were to fight someone who had the emerald power, then the person with this power would win. At first the emerald holder would be powerful, much more powerful, but the other would be able to hold out long enough for the emerald to wear off. Then the other would be able to easily defeat the emerald holder." "That sounds like a cheat." Brass said. He smiled evilly. "I like it." "If we put this here...." "No, son, put it there. Then we'll get better frequency." "Right." "Now put this over here...." "And that over there...." "If this goes here....and that goes there...." "And....there! We've done it! It's finished!" Rotor exclaimed. Just then Sonic ran in. "You guys finished it? All right!" "That's only the half of it. If there were any survivors...." "Hey guys, what's goin' on?" "Have the two of you finished the derobotizizor yet?" "Sure have, Princes. And if it works...." "It'll work." Delphine said. "I hope so." "It better work! You guys better not have made me go back and forth to Robotropolis for nothin!" Sonic exclaimed. "Aw, come on Sonic. It's not like something is out there. No one's waiting there to get rid of us anymore." Rotor told him. "Yeah, I know, but I still get a creepy feeling, like I'm bein watched or something." Sonic said. He shivered at the thought that Robotnik might still be there, somehow, plotting against them. He was close.... Delphine smiled a secret smile. She had seen Sonic going off to Robotropolis, and had followed him. She had also seen him freak out because a piece of cement fell. She hadn't thought about telling anyone before, but.... "So when are yah'all gonna test it out?" "I thought we'd try it on this little guy first." Rotor said, holding up a robotizized homing pigeon. Everyone was quiet. He took the pigeon into the chamber, then lowered the tube. He pressed a few buttons on the control panel, and the tube started glowing with a faint yellow light. After a few minutes, the pigeon was completely restored. The tube lifted. The pigeon stood there for a few minutes, then flew out the door, yelling a thanks behind him as he flew off. For a few moments, everyone stood there, stunned. "Way to go Rotor and Uncle Chuck!" Sonic yelled suddenly. Everyone cheered. Rotor blushed, and Charles would have if he hadn't been a robot. "Bunnie?" Rotor said, pointing towards the machine. Bunnie shook her head. "I think yah'all should use it on Sugah-Chuck first. After all, he helped build it." "But Bunnie...." Charles started. "No buts! You're going first." "Okay, okay, I'm going!" Charles said with a laugh. He walked into the chamber. Rotor lowered the tube. The chamber once again filled with a yellow light. Sonic stood in front of everyone else. "I hope this works," he whispered. Sally laid her arm across his shoulders. At first, Sonic didn't notice any changes. Then, seemingly too slow, Charles started changing. A few minutes later, which seemed like hours to Sonic, the transformation was complete. Rotor lifted the tube. Charles stood there, looking at himself. Sonic walked up to the chamber. "Uncle Chuck?" Charles looked at him. They stood there for a moment, looking at each other. Then Sonic threw himself at Charles. They hugged. "I'm glad you're back," Sonic whispered, holding back tears. "So am I," Charles whispered back. Delphine was telling Ali, Comet, and Dimitria what had happened. "So then...." "You mean to tell me that Sonic the Hedgehog actually showed affection for someone?" Comet asked. She laughed. "You're kidding, right?" "Shut up Comet." Dimitria said, disgusted. "Yeah, come on. Everyone's got a soft side." Ali told her. "You two have no idea what you're talking about." Delphine said, pointing to Ali and Comet. Comet was about to say something when Dimitria held up her hand. "I believe that Delphine was still talking." Delphine nodded her head. "Thank you. Now, as I was saying, when the two of them walked down, Bunnie went up in there and got derobotizized. When she got out, she started crying, which set Sal off, and then I sprung a leak...." "You mean you actually cried?" Comet asked. "I doubt it. You just got wet-eyed, right?" Dimitria asked. "Yup. I don't cry, you know that. I've only been caught doing that once, and it was for probable cause." Delphine said. Comet nodded. Just then Sonic ran up. "Hey Del, there's someone on your com." Sonic said. "I'm coming." Delphine said. She waved to her three friends, and walked back towards her hut with Sonic. "What did you tell them?" Sonic asked after they were out of earshot. "I just told them what happened. I didn't say anything against you. You know I wouldn't." "Yeah, I know. I just don't want them to add on to it." Sonic told her. Delphine shook her head. "They wouldn't do that. You take everything too seriously. The only one I would suspect that would make a big deal about it is Comet." Delphine said. "I know," Sonic sighed. When Delphine got to her hut, she took off her coat and turned on her communicator. Knuckles popped up on the screen. "Hey, Del? What's up?" "Hmm, let me think a minute.... the Floating Island, perhaps?" Delphine said with a grin. Knuckles grinned back. "I was wondering if you would come to the Floating Island for a visit." Knuckles said. "Sure, why not? I've got nothin' to do here." Delphine replied. "Great!.... I mean, sure, just come whenever you want." Knuckles said. Delphine smiled. "See ya when you get here." Knuckles disappeared off the screen. Delphine turned her com off. "Yeah." While Delphine was telling Sally about the invitation, Tails was planning a trip of his own. "Ya know Sugah, yah'all don't have to do this." Bunnie told the young fox. "I know, Bunnie. I want to. I want to know as much about my parents as I can. And to do that, I'm going to need to go find the sanctuary where they were last before they were robotizized." Tails told her. "I know, Sugah." Bunnie sighed. "I just wish you would take someone with you. It's not a good idea to go alone." "Bunnie, I'm not just a kid anymore." "I don't mean that. I wouldn't want to go on my own. Do you even know where you're going?" "Yes, I do." Tails said with a certain confidence. He flew out the window before Bunnie could say anything. She ran to the window. "Tails, wait! What am I going to tell...." Bunnie shook her head. she thought. She walked out of Tails' hut towards Sally's. "You mean to tell me that Tails ran out on his own.... again?!" Sally said, outraged. "Um .... yeah, he sorta just flew out the window before I could do anything." Bunnie said. She was standing in front of the entrance, ready to run out if Sally got to mad. Suddenly Sonic ran in, holding Ali by the arm. "I'll get here on my own next time, thank you very much!" Ali said, rubbing her arm. Sonic ignored her. He turned towards Sally. "Sal, Rotor wants.... what happened?" Sonic asked noticing her angry look. "Tails ran off again, and Bunnie was watching him." Sally said, turning towards the window. "But Sally-girl, I told you, he flew out the window...." "You should've been more careful!" Sally yelled. Bunnie looked down. She didn't say any more. "Sally!" Ali said. Sally turned to her. "What?" Ali opened her mouth, then shook her head. "You shouldn't yell at Bun. It's not her fault!" Sonic said. Sally was about to say something when Bunnie interrupted. "Yes it was," she whispered. "There, ya see? It wasn't WHAT?!" "Naha. No way. There was no way that it's your fault. How can it be your fault? He flew out the window! It's not like you pushed him! How can it be your fault?!" Ali exclaimed. Bunnie didn't say anything. Sonic and Ali glanced at each other. Ali went over to talk to Bunnie, and Sonic stayed with Sally to try and talk some sense into her. (something is wrong with this picture.... it's a little backwards....) "Sal, it wasn't her fault. How was she supposed to stop him?" "I don't know," Sally sighed. "I just got mad because I don't want him to get hurt. I better go apologize to Bunnie." Sally walked away towards Bunnie, leaving Sonic sputtering. "But--I--I thought--you--her--she--I--huh?" Sally turned and smiled. "If I've done something bad enough for you to think it's wrong, then I've really made a mistake." she turned and walked back towards Bunnie. Sonic stared. he thought. he shook his head. "I'm sorry, Bunnie. I shouldn't have yelled. I just didn't want Tails to get hurt, and I took it out on you." Sally said. Bunnie turned. "I know, Sally-girl. I just didn't think..." Bunnie shook her head. "I thought only Sonic did that." Ali grinned. "I heard that." Sonic grumbled. He was sick of all the insults he was getting today. "Friends?" Sally asked. She held out her hand towards Bunnie. Bunnie smiled. "Friends." she took Sally's hand, and they shook. The two of them smiled at each other. Sonic walked past them out of Sally's hut, then leaned against the side of it. Sally walked out to him. "I believe you were going to tell me something? Rotor wanted something?" she asked. "He has another program for Nicole and wants to test it out." Sonic answered gruffly. He turned away from her. Sally turned, then turned back towards Sonic. "What is it?" she asked. "What do you mean?" Sonic said, not looking at her. "What do you mean 'what do you mean'? You won't even look at me. What did I do?" Suddenly she remembered what she had said. "Oh c'mon, Sonic. I was just kidding. Don't take it so hard." she told him. He still wouldn't look at her. She turned his face towards hers. "I'm sorry." she said quietly. Then she kissed him. He kissed her back. They were about to get into it when Bunnie and Ali burst out of the hut. "Hey guys, don't leave us out of the act!" Ali said. She giggled. Sally pulled away. "Do you mind?!" Sonic yelled angrily. "Sorry." Bunnie said, giggling. "We didn't know you were busy.... or I didn't." Bunnie looked at Ali. "What?" she said, putting up her hands. Bunnie sighed. "Let's just go to Rotor's workshop." Sally said. The four of them walked off towards Rotor's hut. Delphine arrive on the Floating Island as Sally and the others arrived at Rotor's hut. She landed and looked around. She didn't see Knuckles or the Chaotix. She took out her powerlink and contacted Knuckles. *Hey Knux, I'm here.* *You are? Good. I'll be there in a minute.* Knuckles responded. A few minutes later, Delphine heard a rustling in the bushes. She turned, and saw Knuckles standing there. "That didn't take long," she told him. "I was close to here. The only reason I wasn't already here when you arrived was because of...." Suddenly Knuckles was hit in the head by a water balloon. "THAT!" he finished. Delphine looked up. She saw Charmy flying overhead, laughing uncontrollably. "You shoulda seen the look on your face when.... when...." he couldn't finish, he was laughing so hard. Suddenly, he lost control of his flight. He fell into a tree. He was still laughing. "Oops!" he exclaimed. He fell out of the tree. "Very funny." Knuckles said as he wiped water off his face. Charmy flew back up into the air before Knuckles could get him. "There's more where that came from!" A voice yelled from the bushes. Suddenly Delphine saw three water balloons coming out of the bushes towards Knuckles. She leapt at him, and the two of them went down as the balloons passed overhead and splattered on the grass half a foot away. The two of them stood up. "C'mon!" Knuckles yelled. He took Delphine's hand and the two of them ran out of the clearing. They hid in the bushes while the Chaotix ran past. When they were gone, the two of them walked out. "Looks like the coast is clear." Knuckles told her. "Who did this get started?" Delphine asked. "After I talked to you, I went outside, and they attacked me with the water balloons. I haven't gotten a chance to get back home and make some of my own. They seem to have a never ending supply." Knuckles told her. "Well, what they have in numbers, you have in expertise. I am an expert on water balloons." Delphine said none to modestly. "Oh, really?" Knuckles was skeptical. "Let's go to your lair, and I'll show you." Delphine said. Knuckles shrugged, and the two of them walked to his home, which wasn't to far from where they were. When they got there, Knuckles opened a drawer and took out a package of water balloons. "Well?" "Fill 'em up. You take half, and I'll take half. If we run out, I've got more in my pack." Delphine said. Knuckles gave her a look. She saw it. "You never know when they'll come in handy." Delphine told him. Knuckles shrugged. He gave her half, and the two of them filled them with water. When they were done, Delphine took her stuff out of her pack, and they put the water balloons in. Not all of them fit, so they put the extras in a secret spot. The they went to find the Chaotix. When Knuckles and Delphine found them, they were huddled around in a clearing, obviously planning something. "Ready?" Delphine whispered. "Are you kidding?" Knuckles whispered back. The took out two water balloons each. They threw them at the Chaotix, each one a direct hit. The one's Delphine had made created a larger splash. "All right!" Delphine exclaimed. The two of them high-fived. "What the hell was that?!" Espio shouted. "It was us, you moronic vulgaris!" Delphine yelled. Knuckles laughed. "Got you back, didn't we?" he said, laughing again. "I'll wipe that smirk off your face." Vector said, smirking himself. He took out a extra power watergun, and shot at Knuckles. Knuckles ducked just in time. "Hey, that's not fair!" Knuckles yelled. He was rewarded with a blast of water form Vector's water gun. "Nobody shoots my boyfriend and gets away with it!" Delphine exclaimed. She took out two water balloons and threw both at Vector. He ducked, but too late. He was hit in the head with one, the chest with the other. He fell over. "You little...." Mighty said. He threw a water balloon at Delphine and hit her shoulder as she turned away to block it. She and Knuckles dove into the bushes as the Chaotix threw an array of balloons at them. "Okay, now what do we do?" Knuckles asked. "Run!" Delphine yelled. The two of them ran off into the forest, with the Chaotix rushing to catch up. Tails landed somewhere in the Great Forest just as Knuckles and Delphine had attacked the Chaotix. He looked around. he thought. He walked into the woods. For a few minutes nothing happened. suddenly, he found himself falling. He fell for what seemed like an eternity. He landed on the moss covered ground with a thud. He tried to get up, but found he was too dizzy. He turned over and lay on his back, resting. he abandoned the thought. He shivered It was a lot colder where he had fallen than it was above ground. He picked himself up, testing his legs, everything seemed to be okay. He took to the air, proving that his tails where okay too. He looked around. In one direction he saw a large indent in the wall, making a small cave. In the another direction, he saw a hallway with very poor lighting. He saw something move. An alarm bell went off in the back of his head. He walked on anyway. About twenty feet down the hallway there a door. He opened it. It led into a small bedroom. He looked around. All there was was a small bed and a makeshift padded chair. He noticed a small box under the bed. He thought about opening it, but decided to do it later. He left the room and went back out into the hallway. Ten feet from the first door there was a second door. He opened this one also. Inside he found a marvelous bedroom, with a king-sized canopy bed and a loveseat in the corned. There was a computer in the other corner, and a once soft rug on the floor, which had been worn rough with time. He walked in and looked around, but didn't find anything interesting. He was about to leave when something caught his eye on the bedside table. He walked over and found a journal. He sat down on the bed and opened it. On the first page it said, 'Property of Jonathan Prower '. "Wow," Tails said aloud. "This must've been my parents room," he murmured. He carefully placed the book in his backpack and walked out of the room. He was walking down the hallway when suddenly he got the feeling he was being watched. He whirled around, but saw nothing. He walked down the hallway and around a corner. He saw that this section of hallway had the sides taken up mostly by boxes. He walked a few feet then heard something. Tails turned again, but once again saw nothing. his thoughts were interrupted when someone picked him up and threw him into a pile of boxes. Tails threw a box off of his head, angry. He tried to get up, but tripped on some boxes and fell again. He was about to get up when the box that he had thrown landed on top of him. it didn't hit that hard, so he just had the wind knocked out of him. He decided to pretend he was hurt, and didn't get up. He closed his eyes. For a few minutes nothing happened. Then Tails heard someone walking to him. He had a sudden urge to fly out of this place, but decided against it. The figure saw Tails on the ground, not moving. "Oh shit," the figure muttered. He walked up to Tails and picked the box up. Tails waited. The figure put a hand on his shoulder. Tails instantly flew open his eyes, took the figures hand and threw him into another pile of boxes. As the figure went flying through the air, Tails saw that it was a fox. Tails got up as the creature landed. He moaned. Tails walked over, but didn't get too close. The fox was lying on the ground, holding his head. Tails figured that the fox was slightly older than him, twelve or thirteen maybe. The young fox noticed him and looked up. "What're you lookin at?" the fox said. "You." Tails said flatly. "Not much of a sight," the fox answered back. Tails gave a slight smile. He held out his hand to help the fox up. The young fox looked at him in surprise. "Why...." Tails shook his head. "You didn't attack me because you wanted to. You attacked me because I might be a danger." The fox was about to take Tails hand, but pulled away when he heard that. "Are you?" he asked worridly. "Who, me?" Tails laughed. "Only if you're a robot." The fox hesitated, then took Tails' hand again. Tails pulled him up. "My names Mi--er, Tails." Tails didn't want the fox to know that he had lived here for the first year of his life. "The name's Marco." Marco said. He looked turned around. "C'mon, I'll show you around." Marco walked off down the hall, and Tails followed close behind. "Interesting," Rotor murmured to himself. "Very interesting." He was interrupted by Sonic yelling, "But stupid...." "Don't even say it!" Rotor heard Sally yell. "But it's true! Antoine is so stupid...." "No! He just makes mistakes! If everyone that made a mistake was called stupid, you would be the village idiot." "I already am, aren't I?" Sonic muttered. "Sonic...." But Sonic sped off before Sally could say anything else. She sighed. "Something wrong, Princess?" Rotor said, pretending he hadn't heard the argument. "Oh, nothing," she said, sighing again. She noticed the screen Rotor had been studying so intently earlier. "What's that?" "Oh, this?" Rotor asked, pointing. "I was doing a scan of the forest and found a few robots. I think they're stray robotizized Mobians." Rotor said excitedly. "Do you really think so?" Sally asked also getting excited. "I'll go ask Sonic to go out there and-- ohhh! I forgot! He left. Now who is going to.... I know! Where's Comet?" "Comet?" Rotor thought for a moment. "I think she's napping in Delphine's hut." "I'll go ask her if she'll find Sonic and have the two of them go off and find out what's going." Sally walked out of Rotor's hut and towards Delphine's hut. In a few minutes, she was there. She walked in without knocking. Comet woke with a start. "Huh--what?" She looked around and shook her head. "I need you to go find Sonic." Sally told her. She explained what Rotor had scanned. "Cool! I'll go find Sonic." Comet walked out of the hut, spread her wings, and took off with a running start. "Sir?" "Yes, Brass?" "We've just gotten news that your friend has found the coordinates for this dimension." Brass told him. Snively jumped up in the air. "Yes! Now he just needs to find two more and then he will come! Oh, this is so exciting! Finding the planets coordinates will be even easier, since there aren't as many planets in this dimension as there are in others." Snively walked over to the computer. He found a message from his comrade, telling about the successful transfer. Snively rubbed his hands together in anticipation. "Yes," he murmured. "Very exciting." "Enough!" Archimedes yelled, trying to stop the six friends in their water fight. He was rewarded with a water balloon next to him, causing him to be blown half a foot into the air and landing a foot away. "Stop! Time out!" Delphine yelled, making her hands into a T. Knuckles ran over to where Archimedes had fallen and knelt down. "Hey Archy, you okay?" he asked. "I *gasp* think so...." Archimedes said, struggling to get up. Delphine saw this and turned to Mighty. "Nice aiming, dirtwad. You're supposed to be hitting the larger than three inches type people, remember?" she said angrily. "It's not my fault!" "Oh really? Then who's fault is it, the invisible armidillo standing behind you?" Delphine said sarcastically. She found herself wanting to hit him with an enegry ball. She abandoned the thought. She turned to Knuckles. "Is he okay?" she asked, walking over. "I think so." Knuckles said, picking the fire ant up. He tirned to the Chaotix. "No more, guys. We'll finish this later." "Aw, man. I've still got one left." Vector complained. "Yeah, so do I." Charmy told him. The two looked at each other, then glanced at Delphine. "I think I know what we can do with them." "Yeah, so do I." Charmy said. The two of them took aim. "Don't you dare even...." Delphine was interrupted by the splash of the water balloons as they hit her. Vector and Charmy ran/flew off, laughing. Delphine yurned to Knuckles. "Excuse me a moment while I go get rid of some surpressed anger." She ran off after the two Chaotix, yelling, "Get back here you dirty...." Mighty walked up to Knuckles, who was know holding the wet but otherwise okay fire ant. "Sorry," he said more quietly than usual. Archimedes looked up at him. "It's all right. You didn't do it on purpose." Archimedes said, still trying to stand up on Knuckles hand. "Guys, I think we should go find those thre before they get themselves in trouble." Espio told them. "Good idea. Glad I thought of it." Knuckles said. Archimedes jumped onto his shoulder. He jumped into the forest and ran off to find the other three. Mighty and Espio followed close behind. "Lord Snively?" asked Brass "Yes?" Snively answered. "He's found the next set of coordinates." Brass said. "Yes! All right!" Snively clapped his hands together. "This is going perfectly, just perfectly!" "Uh, sir?" "Yes?" "He just found the coordinates he needs to come here. Now all he needs is to enter the coordinates and...." In Haven, Locke, Knuckles father, was watching the seven of them closely. (Archimedes is there, remember?) "Hmm...." he said to himself. "I hope Delphine doesn't...." he was interrupted by a white cloud appearing behind him, which sent the alarm off. "Alarm off!" he commanded. The alarm immediately stopped whining. "You know Locke, you really ought to get that thing fixed." Locke turned to the voice. "Dimitria! What are you doing here?" Locke asked. (Okay, you can all say 'huh?' now. :P) "I came to warn you. I was talking with Athair, and he said that there was upcoming danger to the planet that would involve Knuckles." she told him. "Hmmm...." he thought it over. "They don't seem to be doing anything troublesome now...." "He said that....ohhhhh...." she knelt down on the floor, holding her head. Locke leapt over his chair and knelt down next to her. "Are you all right? What happened?!" Locke said, worried. "I--I--ohh, my head." she said, struggling to stay up. Locke held out an arm so that she wouldn't fall over. He watched in silence. "Are.... are you okay?" he asked again, quietly. "I--I think so." she told him. "What happened?" he asked. "There....I think...." suddenly she stood up. Locke rose next to her. "I need to leave." she said with a blank look. She left before Locke could do anything. "Wait! Don't...." He sighed, then went back to the monitors to watch Knuckles and his friends. he thought. . Dimitria arrived at the caves in a few minutes. she thought. She looked around. she thought. Suddenly she heard a high pitched whine. She blocked her ears. In front of her she saw a small yet awesomely bright white light, and it was getting larger. Suddenly she felt herself thrown against the cave wall. She closed her eyes and held her head. The whining stopped. She looked up. In front of her she saw a human boy, not much younger than Delphine. She groaned. The human noticed her for the first time. "Do you work for Snively?" he asked in a voice slightly deeper than Tails'. "N--no." she groaned out. She was still holding her head. The newcomer smiled evily. "Then you're a Freedom Fighter?" "Yes." She looked up. "Who're you?" she asked. He walked up to her, then picked her up by her throat. "ack! What.....who.... are.... you?" she gasped out. "You're worst nightmare," he said with an evil grin. Dimirtria shuddered. End of part 1 To be continued....
