Well, welcome to the world of NiGHTS fan fiction. The idea behind it all is that when you dream you sort of go into another universe or dimension. The beings in this world don't truly fit under any classification that we have; they have physical characteristics (they breathe, sleep, etc.), and are not really spirits.
