Flicky (a blue bird), Ricky (a chipmunk), Picky (a pig), Pocky (a rabbit), Rocky (a walrus), Cucky (a chicken), and Pecky (a penguin) are several of the animal residents of South Island. They are completely defenseless, and thus the primary targets of Robotnik's robot system, whereby innocent animals are turned into robot workers. Flickies are a unique and mysterious species of bird. They are rarely seen, come in a multitude of colors and feather patterns, and live in their own dimension. They travel between worlds using Dimension Rings.

Hip and Hop are two fun-loving twin kangaroos. By operating a steam-pump to act as a springboard of sorts, they helped Sonic through the Lava Powerhouse area of Robotnik's Veg-O Fortress.

Heavy and Bomb showed up just as Dr. Robotnik made his move for Carnival Island's power source. They were his former mechanics, and claim they've escaped and want to help. Nobody's certain whether they're sincere, or doing undercover work for the Eggman... Heavy was Robotnik's chief mechanic, and he's just as his name implies -- heavy and slow. Bomb is a total coward, and blows up when things start looking bleak. (Although he might get along well with Bean the Dynamite...)
