Sonic Comics Go Adventure

It seems that the Sonic Adventure trend has slipped over into Archie Comics' monthly desecration to Sonic the Hedgehog. Starting with issue #71, the art and character designs will follow the hip, stylized new impressions introduced in Sonic Adventure. Dr. Robotnik, who was - in a typical cheesy comic book stunt - "killed off" in issue #50, will be returning as well (presumably in his new Adventure look).

Personally, I haven't been following the Sonic comics for well over a year now, and I pride NEO GHZ's "pure" stance on Sonicdom. Nonetheless, this tidbit caught my interest, and I plan to pick up the first couple of issues in the "new" look just out of curiosity. Historically, Archie's attempts to meld true Sonic events with their own nauseating little world have turned out disastrous. Hopefully this time they've got the good sense to abandon the "haze the line" tactic and start from a clean slate. Of course, even if they do, it doesn't mean the quality is going to go up...but one way or the other, it's got a neat "join the revolution" ring to it, so I figured I'd mention it here. Welcome to the new order, indeed. To think I was among the first. I feel like a founding father.

What mirror?

Here's the cover to issue #71. It's hazy, but opposite that horrendously deformed blue thing in the middle (it's either Sonic or moldy blueberry cobbler, I'm not sure which), you can see a reflection of Sonic's Adventure model. (Note the green eyes.) Unfortunately, the disheartening words "The World's Most Way Past Cool Comic!" sit prominently atop the Sonic logo, and the cover gives the impression that they're going to attempt "explaining" the changes to fit in with the ludicrous mess they've made of every Sonic universe there ever was in their hopeless battle to try and make them all work together. Hmhmhm... I should probably wrap this up now before I think of another wisecrack to spout.
