Sonic Anime Resurfaces
Although the rights for the Sonic anime were picked up over a year ago by ADV Films, the license
has sat dormant until now (probably timed to coincide with the US release of Dreamcast and
Sonic Adventure). Finally, the packaging and formats have been announced: It will be
called "Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie" and will come in dubbed only on both VHS and DVD formats.
($19.98 for the video, $29.98 for the DVD) Look for both versions on store shelves come
September 7th. The dubbing actors aren't revealed, and I although I do hold the tiniest wish
that they're the US SA voices, I'm not hopeful.
The original Sonic anime was released as a two-part OVA (original video animation) in 1996 from
Wishbone and Taki Corporation in Japan. Original voices include Masami Kikuchi as Sonic,
Yasunori Matsumoto as Knuckles, Hekiru Shiina as Tails, Junpei Taniguchi as Eggman, and Mika
Kanai as Sera.
