Burning Rangers 2...Definite?

Word from several very reliable sources has it that Sonic Team has already begun planning a sequel to their last Saturn game, Burning Rangers. As good as BR was, the game was obviously never able to live up to its full potential due to the constraints of the Saturn's outdated hardware. It seems Naka-sama and the rest of the gang are well aware of this fact, and are interested in creating a sequel to the game on the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast's massively superior specs should tear down all but the most thick of technology constraints, giving Sonic Team plenty of room to do all the things they wanted to do with the Saturn version, but couldn't.

The most interesting of the rumored enhancements takes advantage of the Dreamcast's impressive texture system, to create a realistic "burning" effect...that is, the fire won't just be floating in the air anymore, objects will actually "burn" in the virtual flames. Sounds impressive, let's hope Sonic Team can pull this ambitious feat off. More importantly, though...will Tillis and Iria's butt-cracks now be in 3D rather than just texture-mapped on? We can only hope...

Apparently, the team will begin work on Burning Rangers 2 right after completing Sonic Adventure. Keep in mind that Sega's yet to officially announce this, but the rumor comes from very solid places, and it does make sense that Sonic Team would want to complete the BR experience in a way the Saturn simply couldn't achieve. Whatever the case, it's still atleast 18 months off one way or the other. But just the thought of Burning Rangers running along Dreamcast's sexy curves should be enough to get even those who didn't like the original hot & sultry with anticipation, and just nevermind what it does to those who were fans of the original...
