Unfortunately, what Gillwing has in sheer pain-inflicting power, he lacks in any form of intelligence. Luckily, when the mere sight of him alone isn't enough to scare an enemy away, his lashing tail could knock them to the other side of Nightopia before they have a chance to assess his brain power.
