The ten-year-old Shou abandons all hope as the wall of fire closes in on him. When just at that moment, the flames flicker against what seems to be the silhouette of an angel gliding through the inferno: a Burning Ranger. As the selfless Ranger pulled Shou from the fire, a promise was made:
"Don't die, promise me!"
"Sure."
That promise was broken in front of Shou's very eyes, as the moment he was hurled to safety, he whirled around to see his rescuer overtaken by the flames. That was ten years ago, but from that moment, Shou realized his destiny.

Shou has an intense drive in his work, but tends to be a bit too zealous, often endangering himself. The problem is worsened by his naiveté, but this combined with his cheerful personality give him a distinct charm, and make him an ideal Burning Ranger. Although Lead Phoenix doesn't seem to think so, and the two can often be heard arguing over the Voice Navigation intercom system...
