Every once in a while, the past catches up with you. It strikes like the
explosion of a thousand atom bombs, and the pathetic false sense of security you've spent your
life mustering is shattered like a broken dream. For me, this is one of those times.
Ever hear of an old Sega arcade game called Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car?
No? That's not too surprising, but it did exist, and it's even older than the well-known Sonic
Arcade. In fact, it's even older than Sonic 2. Shortly after the release of the original Sonic
1, Sega wasted no time in introducing their new baby mascot to the arcade scene. The result is
pictured below.
The object, apparently, is to drive around various levels chasing down
criminals within a given time limit. As you can probably ascertain from the cabinet, this was
not a serious arcade contender...looks like it was just meant to keep little brother busy while
big bro chucks quarters into the Altered Beast and Gale Racer machines. (These
pics and info are courtesy of "Knux Lee.")
At this point, that is the extent of my knowledge on the subject. Apparently,
there was also a similar arcade title released at the same time with shooter-esque gameplay,
featuring Sonic in a spaceship. I'll post museum pages on the elderly twins as soon as I dig up
something substantial on them (which may take a while). Just don't talk to me, I've got a
headache...
