Resident GHZer Popcorn recently got in touch with Sonic's English voice, Ryan
Drummond. Mr. Drummond had a couple of interesting comments, most notably regarding an upcoming
download for Sonic Adventure and his role in Sonic Shuffle. Grab an earfull of
these snippets from the E-mail:
"It was an honor and a pleasure being selected to be the official voice of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG.
It's really been fun as well as a good job. Recording the game was sometimes a challenge, seeing
as the script is translated from Japanese. All five producers of the game were there when we
recorded it, and even though none of them spoke a word of English (they all funnelled their
comments through a Japanese/English translator) they had many opinions about how lines should be
said. Sometimes I also was told to read lines where I didn't know WHO I was talking to or what I
was talking about. Also, the lips of the characters in the game are speaking Japanese and
sometimes getting English to sync up to that was near impossible because it takes FOREVER to say
things in Japanese. It was all a good time though. Sega has been very nice to me and I am
suppposed to be going back into the studio to record a new downloadable level for SONIC ADVENTURE
later this month. I'll also be doing the voice of Knuckles (whom I did for the English version
that was released in Japan as well). And yes, I have many nightmares about various lines in the
game. I think my fave will always be, 'Look out! Yer gonna crash! Aahh!!'. It sends sparks of
pain down my spine everytime I hear it."
In a seperate message, Mr. Drummond confirmed that he is currently working on
Sonic Shuffle, meaning we can expect voices in there, too (likely with the same actors).
Big, squishy thanks to Popcorn for having the balls to try that E-mail address.
