Once upon a time, before the Dream was Cast, there was a Belt of Black, a
Japanese sword, and a well-formed Virtua Fighter sporting a silver exoskeleton. But there was
also...a Cube for Games. In essence, a Gamecube; and it wasn't Nintendo's. If Sonic Team had
had their way in the name game three years ago, the white box of Sega goodness we all have
gracing our shelves would be the G-Cube; and the colorful crate of Nintendo goodness we've all
plunked down advance payments for would probably be something entirely different.
While chilling at the recent Spaceworld show over in the homeland, Naka caught
the name "Gamecube" and recalled it as Sonic Team's candidate for the name of what eventually
came to be called Dreamcast. Or close enough...the name Naka-san and the gang suggested was
"G-Cube", where the "G" stands for Game. Coincidence? Or something more? Betrayal is in the
air as our story continues next week, in another exciting episode of...the S-Files!
