Yeah, I said sequels. As in the plural form of "sequel." I'm sure
most of y'all have heard the rumors by now. I don't generally cover rumors, because there's
more than enough of that half-assed "info" circulating popular Sonic sites as it is. But this
comes straight from the hedgehog's mouth: Sega of America's VP of marketing, Peter Moore. Mr.
Moore had this to say to Games Business magazine regarding Sega's E3 line-up: "Our focus
at E3 will be online games, our sports line-up and games such as the new Sonic the Hedgehog
titles..."
They've been talking about it since forever, but it looks like we're
finally going to see some more Sonic at this summer's E3. "Sonic Adventure 2" has been
the big rumor, but a Mario Party-ish "Sonic Party" title has been bounced around, and a
possible sequel to Sonic R has also been spoken of. (Sources:FGN, Gaming Age)
The bad news is that it's very unlikely that Sonic Team is directly involved in
any of these titles. However, that doesn't necessarily mean they won't be cool...if, of course,
they are indeed just "side story" games ala Spinball or Labyrinth. I'd particularly welcome a
"Sonic Party" title, but if "Sonic Adventure 2" turns out to be legit, I'm not going to be a
happy puppy unless the game looks freaking unbelievable.
